porterhouse (892), Alna, Maine, USA Mar 31, 2008 (330 ml bottle (best before end ’09) from <A HREF=http://www.ratebeer.com/Place/maine/portland/downeast-beverage-co/974.htm target=blank>Downeast Beverage Co., cellared for 1 yr. after purchase) Soft and sweet...Gushed a little bit upon opening. Pours cloudy brownish amber with one finger of creamy, soft-looking biege head that recedes to about 1/4" and stays. Quite a bit of solids at bottom of bottle. Aroma of candyish malt, dark fruits and brown sugar. Mouthfeel is buttery soft and luscious. Thin sheets of lacing on inside of glass melt away quickly. Flavor is big and sugary - brown sugar and candy malt sweetness with touches of dark sweet fruit. Well-integrated alcohol presence. Quite elegant and tasty.

Pours dark brown with a medium lasting beige head. Aroma is quite sour with dark fruits as the dominating note. Flavour is spicy with dark berries and cane sugar. Imaena (175), Portland, Maine, USA Jul 13, 2008 Bottle 11.2 oz Bangor ME 08’.
Bottle erupted when opened. Settlement came out in the head and was suspended in the beer when poured into a tulip. Sweet malts, honey cake, buscuits, over ripe bananas, and dyactel. Well done tripel w/ balanced alcohol bite. Very enjoyable. IvoR (25), Massachusetts, USA Jul 3, 2008 750ml Bottle. Pours brown with sediment particles and thin head. I didn’t like the smell at first, reminded me of some low quality brews I’ve previously thrown away due to tons of added alcohol I just can’t stand. So I started with low expectations but the first sip changed all that. Aroma is mild and tasteful, a nice blend of honey, caramel, and fruit. Alcohol was barely noticeable. I just wish it had a longer finish. Very well done. ansermadide (160), Kyle, Texas, USA Jun 26, 2008 (11.2oz bottle from Whip-in with Ana P at home on June 26, 2008) Pours a malty orange/brown color, very carbonated at first, into a small snifter. Head active, but dissipates, leaving no lacing. Aroma is light, spice/caramel, maybe toffee/molasses. Burnt sugar, etc. Taste is sweet and salty on the tip of the tongue. My mouth is still watering from the saltiness... it’s almost astringent. Palate is dry, with a sweet alcoholic cloud lingering at the back of the tongue for a while after the brew goes down. Alcohol noticeable, but well accompanied by the malty tripel-ness. A great tripel!
