el_caballo (98), Beverly Hills, California, USA May 11, 2008 The commercial description is right on when it talks about the enormous scale of flavors. The dark fruit sweetness is the main player but their is some yeast and bitterness. The flavors are just to strong for me but it is still a pretty good drink. A very slow sipper
IvoR (25), Massachusetts, USA Jul 3, 2008 750ml Bottle. Pours brown with sediment particles and thin head. I didn’t like the smell at first, reminded me of some low quality brews I’ve previously thrown away due to tons of added alcohol I just can’t stand. So I started with low expectations but the first sip changed all that. Aroma is mild and tasteful, a nice blend of honey, caramel, and fruit. Alcohol was barely noticeable. I just wish it had a longer finish. Very well done. ansermadide (135), Kyle, Texas, USA Jun 26, 2008 (11.2oz bottle from Whip-in with Ana P at home on June 26, 2008) Pours a malty orange/brown color, very carbonated at first, into a small snifter. Head active, but dissipates, leaving no lacing. Aroma is light, spice/caramel, maybe toffee/molasses. Burnt sugar, etc. Taste is sweet and salty on the tip of the tongue. My mouth is still watering from the saltiness... it’s almost astringent. Palate is dry, with a sweet alcoholic cloud lingering at the back of the tongue for a while after the brew goes down. Alcohol noticeable, but well accompanied by the malty tripel-ness. A great tripel! kidmartinek (638), austin, Texas, USA Jun 20, 2008 Probably my favorite Belgian. An abbey ale with dark sugar. Pour dark cloudy brown with tons of suspension and sediment. Large tan head that last a while. Good dark sugar, belgian yeast aroma. Great flavor of dark sugar fruit, and belgian yeast. Incredibly smooth for a 10%. You can’t even tell. Very enjoyable. Flavorful, smooth finish. martinboer (1243), Amsterdam, Netherlands Jun 15, 2008 Bottle in Northfield, MA. Dark brown body with massive head. Spicy and orangy nose. Strong syrupy taste, with caramel. Great flavours of plums, sweatbread, raisins and sugar. Well done. kiefdog (267), Tampa, Florida, USA Jun 8, 2008 75cl bottle from Willow Bend Liquors (Tampa). Pours a dark brown with a thin tan head that leaves little lacing on the glass. Aroma: ripe dark fruit, sour citrus, grass, straw, apple, complex spice. Flavor is sweet and sour with tang and hints of coffee, vanilla and banana. Very different tripel but not unpleasant. Complex Belgian ale.
