Bottle. Poured very lively. Nose is bread, brown sugar, touch of honey and syrup, dark fruits, slight spice. Taste is (as others have noted) a dubbel: Dark fruits, nuts, burnt sugar, leather, slight spice in the finish. Apperance is poor, I don’t like the floaters. Mouthfeel is a full but a bit sticky. I like a dubbel so I enjoyed it, but not what was expected.

0,33 l bottle picked up @Kihoskh, København. A slow gusher. A mostely diminishing tall blond top, over a deep amber colored body carrying lots of floaters. Nice vinous-fruity nose, Belgo-yeast, gently sweet toasted malts, and tones of marzipan. Full body. Prickling, champagne-like carbonatio[. Gently sweet malt flavor. Inviting tinned fruits. Vinous in a good way. Light and fresh yeast tones. Fruity, light sweetish malty mouth-warming ending. This bottle was not in its best condition, but the fine qualities shine trough. A little disappointed with this one. They bill it as a triple but I would agree with the characterization that this was more like a strong ale. The aroma was yeasty, fruity and alcoholic. The color was a deep ruby brown but with a ton of floaters. Given, this bottle was about 19 months old but ales like this have a good shelf life and it shouldn’t have looked like a school of sea monkeys. I chose not to finish the big bottle. The palate was fine and heavy. The flavors were malty and fruity and a little boozy. Some hops presence. I didn’t leave me wanting more. I’ll probably give it another try some day.

330 mL bottle. Really dark, for a triple. Looks more like a dubbel. Kinda smells more like a dubbel too - the fruit is overripe and bruised, rather than tart. Upon tasting, I have to say that I’m pretty sure this is not supposed to be a tripel. But it is damn tasty, as is to be expexted from ADR. Fruity (raisins, green grapes, orange, berry) and not too sweet. Spice. Christmas cake. Great body.

11.2 ounce bottle. Pours a murky, chunky, floaty, brown. No head. Aroma has chocolate, roast, burnt bread. Tastes sort of smoky and sweet.

750ml bottle into a St. Bernardus snifter, About 1 year past the indicated best before date of 06/04/2012, but stored carefully. A: Pours a dark reddish amber with a finger of off-white head. The head quickly recedes to a lasting partial coat and ring. Even the first pour provided a load of suspended sediment, some of which rose and fell in swirls due to the carbonation. Very peculiar looking and not so appealing. The sediment was not detectable by feel. S: Very complex aroma; one of those rare beers where it seems a bit different every time a take a sniff/sip. The high ABV is most apparent here, being quite well hidden in tasting and in the gently warming feel. T: Mildly spicy and sweet, with hints of dark honey, nutmeg, cinnamon, dark bread, figs, and roast nuts. Very nice balance between dark fruitiness, mild sweetness and spices. M: Medium-full thickness; creamy smooth; medium and very soft carbonation. O: An exceptional beer that, given the sediment, is best enjoyed in a darker environment.
