Dark Triple with enormous scale of flavors. This excellent and very elegant appetizer feels like it is made exclusively for kings and emperors

Bottle. Pours dark amber with a small off-white head. Malty and spicy yeast aroma with hints of dark fruit and alcohol. Fairly sweet malt flavor with spicy yeast notes, dark fruit and a hint of wood. Spicy yeast, dark fruits and alcohol in the finish.

33cl bottle. Tried to prevent sediment from pouring into the glass but it seems to start almost from the beginning. Dark amber with a beige head, various sized pieces of sediment. Sweet, raisin, some prune, alcohol, liege style waffles, figs. Very sweet but very different from most sweet beers I have had as its an intense fruity sweetness with some alcohol, mild carbonation, full body, sweet finish. Not sure I would want an entire bottle to myself but if you like sweet and belgian candy sugared beers then this is for you.

Thanks to tastybeer for sharing this with b3shine and myself. Despite a considerable amount of sediment in the bottle this was a solid beer. I thought I had tried it before but it must be one of those beers I’ve always walked past until it was no longer for sale.

Aroma / Appearance - Heavy chunks of yeast from a year or more of aging give it an unappealing look. When it finally (somewhat) clears the body has a pleasant caramel color. Cherry pie, red vines, caramel brownies, and dark fruits provide a mixture of good flavors from which to start.

Flavor / Palate - Caramel, spice, and chocolate are very smooth when not swallowing a chunk of thick yeast. Working around that it leads to a warm finish. The booziness isn’t too intense yet manages to become evident about halfway through the glass. If not for the issue of sediment this would be a clear 4.0+.

By all means a solid Tripel, but again, the Brune is where it’s at with these gents.

750 ml to tulip (shared by tastybeer). Looks subpar; LOTS of sediment though. Amberish brown with off-white head that dissipates into lacing and sediment out the wazoo. Smells of dark fruit and Belgian yeast with a fairly sweet backbone. Tastes like it smells with an average mouthfeel. Solid beer, but the appearance really detracts from its overall pleasantness.

Poured from a large bottle into a trappist-style glass to drink. The beer had a deep, cloudy amber color with a slight brownish hue and some light, noticeable sediment. It had an enormous foamy and bubbly off-white head with good retention, leveling off to a modest-sized head, along with excellent cling and lacing. The aroma featured a nice array of floral notes mixed with some dark fruits and a candy and sugar effect as well, but could have been a bit more pronounced. Its taste was mostly sweet with a slight sour touch that had soft, dark fruit notes, along with a sweet candy component. The beer was soft and subtle on the palate, with average levels of carbonation and life, but had a filling, creamy mouthfeel and was a touch dry.

(M.A. 18 oct 2014) (811-150913)
