Dark berry/ruby color with tan head and lots of yeast sediment. Smells a little maltier that the Grand Cru or Brune. The flavor is bland upfront, then it hits you with a strong caramel malty flavor with dark fruits and brown sugar. I like this much better that the Brune/Grand Cru. It also has a very good body and carbonation with slight bitter finish. Yum!

This is a very complex, intriguing dark tripel. Pours amber/orange with a thick beige head that lingers, lots of sediment when you hold it to the light. Aroma is of caramel, sweet malt, dark bread, nuts, plum, cherry, and an attic in an old house. Taste is medium sweet and mildly bitter, very fruity, complex, and balanced. Has a silky mouthfeel, although it looks aggressively carbonated in the glass. Has vinous qualities, like a good port. Long, mellow, sweet finish. Has a best before date of Feb 16, 2013 on the bottle but I think it isn’t too old, the age has probably improved the flavor. Would like to check out more styles from this brewery.

Countbeer (4028) - Best of E-Town mit ein Brauhaus, NETHERLANDS - MAR 31, 2014
Bottle: Served in a shaker: Quite a big beige foamy head with a clear amber brown colored beer. Aroma has lots of red fruit and caramel and hints of flowers, sweets, soap, sweet malts, some sweet wood and some red fruit candy sweets (slight). Flavours of red fruits, cream, malts, bitters, some sweets, light herbs, some caramel, some wood ish tones, some sweet nuts and caramelised hay/grass. Aftertaste is malty, red fruits, bitters, some herbs and light caramel. Low carbo, creamy to silky mouthfeel, medium to fuller bodied and a light creamy to oily texture. This is very nice indeed!

Bottle bought some place I can’t remember. pours deep reddish brown with tons of sediment and a frothy beige head that leaves lots of trace on the glass while dissipating. Smell is malty, fruity and phenolic with sweet dark bread, caramelized apples, baked pears, caramel, raisins bran, dry wood, alcohol, marzipan, golden syrup, lemon peal, plums, dates and black pepper corns. Taste is sweet, very tiny bitter, malty, fruity and phenolic with sweet dark bread, caramel, toffee, hay, wood, dates, figs, raisin bran, baked apples and pears, rose water, marzipan, lemon peal and alcohol. Mouthfeel is round, tiny dry, champagne-like, tiny boozy, soft and near full bodied. Finish is tiny sweet, tiny bitter, fruity and phenolic with dark bread, baked pears, dates, figs, caramel, toffee, hay, dry soil and alcohol. Massive beer that manages to stay balanced. A tasty treat indeed.

Bottle, shared with Parksy. I expected a trippel style belgian ale based on my misinterpretation of the label, so I was surprised at the dark colour of the pour. The flavour profile is completely different from a trippel as well. Sweet bready malts, lots of figgy fruit, lightly alcoholic finish. Not as smooth or complex as the grand cru, but still immensely enjoyable.

Definitely, I am a fan of Brasserie des Rocs. For sure, they haven’t the name or the prestige of another breweries or abbeys, but their beers are excellent, very serious and very...just to say, Belgian. Like this one, with a high presence of the yeast and the candi sugar both in mouth and nose, getting a relatively complex, well structured and balanced beer. The overall is extremely elegant and delicate, but high bodied: an iron fist wrapped in a silk glove. Great.

Bottle from Utobeer. A serious gusher. Pours murky red, huge head endures, loads of sediment. Looks pretty rubbish. Smell - sherry and coffee - smells aged. After a while I start getting more cherry. Body - medium to light, foamy, low carbonation. Taste - sweet yet earthy, malty, dark fruit, caramel. Drying alcoholic finish. It tastes similar to a modern barley wine. A bit of a mixed experience - looks awful but tastes pretty good, and that’s the most important thing.

Bière vraiment surprenante aux effluves de tire sainte Catherine, sucrée au nez. Légèrement sucrée au goût, note de caramel sans goûter la scotch ale. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Pours dark amber with a small off-white head. Malty and spicy yeast aroma with hints of dark fruit and alcohol. Fairly sweet malt flavor with spicy yeast notes, dark fruit and a hint of wood. Spicy yeast, dark fruits and alcohol in the finish.

33cl bottle. Tried to prevent sediment from pouring into the glass but it seems to start almost from the beginning. Dark amber with a beige head, various sized pieces of sediment. Sweet, raisin, some prune, alcohol, liege style waffles, figs. Very sweet but very different from most sweet beers I have had as its an intense fruity sweetness with some alcohol, mild carbonation, full body, sweet finish. Not sure I would want an entire bottle to myself but if you like sweet and belgian candy sugared beers then this is for you.
