Dark Triple with enormous scale of flavors. This excellent and very elegant appetizer feels like it is made exclusively for kings and emperors

Dark reddish brown and cloudy with a frothy tan head - also had a chunk of yeast at the start of the pour. Sugary, dark fruity aroma with yeast&leaves. Dark fruity, slightly sour, malty, slightly nutty flavor that finishes with sugary sweet and a very faint touch of alcohol. Smooth, medium bodied palate.

UPDATED: AUG 7, 2014 The label says ’Brasserie des Rocs Triple Impériale’, apparently made for export to North America. Creamy, light beige, dense head, very dark mahogany colour with ruby hue and tiny yeast particles floating everywhere. Rich, sweet ’Belgian chocolate’ aroma of dates, chocolate liqueur, port wine, brown sugar, cloves, gingerbread, liquorice, cranberries, candied cherries, honey and pine needles. Soft and rich, mellow taste of dark candied fruits, port-like, with a mineral-like carbonation, full and nutty malt base, oily and thick, creamy mouthfeel, ending in a flowery hoppy finish with warming alcohol. Now this is the kind of rich, opulent, profound beers that stand equivalent to our famous chocolates. I love this - though I still have something against the use of ’dark’ and ’triple’ in combination with each other, let’s just agree that these so-called ’dark triples’ should always be classified as quadrupels.

Appearance: bottle frothed out when opened; the pour was muddy brown, clouded with vast colonies of chunky floaties; head was creamy light tan, slightly rocky and studded with dark brown spots--in short, it looked a mess. Aroma: strong nose of raisin, clove, cinnamon, sticky toffee, caramel, figs, dark fruits, candi sugar, cinnamon. Taste: very sweet, with caramel, toffee, crème brulee, cherries in heavy syrup, candi sugar, raisins, prunes, fig, light bourbon, clove, and cinnamon spice. Finish: lingering sweet flavors like an oatmeal raisin cookie, with yeasty notes growing more prominent. Notes: Bottle was best before 2-22-2014, so about 7 months past. Possibly explains the gusher and appearance, although at 10% you’d think it would keep a little better. In spite of the frankly gross appearance, this had a great aroma and wonderful, deep flavors. Alcohol was remarkably well-hidden. Just awfully hard to get past the dying pond-like appearance.

330ml bottle from Saveur Biere. BBE 20/03/2016.

Brown nectar with a creamy head. Sweet aroma and taste, spices. Feels mellow. Nice mouth-feel and ABV is hidden. Pleasant.

750 ml bottle at home from backlog notes 07/08. Pours a hazy reddish brown color with a medium sized beige head. There was some sediment floating around. The aroma and flavor have sweet caramel, dark fruit, raisins, plums, figs, yeast, chocolate, candi sugar, a hint of the alcohol. This is a solid drinking beer that I would have again.

Cheers !!

75cl bottle shared with S&G tasting group. APPEARANCE: clear dark blond beer, unstable off white head. NOSE: too sweet, caramel. TASTE: too sweet, caramel, too unidimensional... Very boring and disappointing.
