Rerate: more going on here than I originally credited. Nice refreshing sourness. Good quirky summer drinking. Original rate: A light, easy-drinking French blonde ale. As simple and satisfying as a baguette. Pouring it into a Belgian chalice produced one of the most extraordinary heads I can recall - a huge souffle that collapsed into the shattered crags of a volcanic crater. Wish the beer was as memorable. There were no spices listed among the ingredients but this had the familiar hint of coriander, plus lemons, brass banisters and flowers. Quite creamy on the tongue but thinning in the swallow. Sweet, quenching mix of wheat malts and coriander. Solid but forgettable. (330ml bottle courtesy of Bridge - thanks, buddy. BB 31/10/08)

Hop malt aroma with a hint of barnyeard. Murky yellow colour with good head and lacing. Malt hop flavour with sharp sweet candy aftertaste. Very surprising. Fizzy palate.

Bottled 33cl. It pours a hazy golden beer with a fizzy white head. Floating sediment detectable. The nose is grassy, flowery with notes of caramel, pineapple, orange and apple. Quite unrefined with a lot of candy showing up. Sweet malty taste with a low bittterness. Some melon and pineapple appearing. Grainy. Some coriander in there. Nicely citrussy with an unexpected yeasty finish.

Abbaye du Cateau La Vivat is a nice, natural beer. The aroma is very natural and grassy. The beer is a blond color with a quickly disappearing white head. The taste is very natural that makes this a very drinkable beer.

Bottle (330ml). Upon opening/pouring I was presented with 2 glasses of nothing but foam, it took a good 15 minutes to settle them down. Poured a muddy orangey brown with small chunks of sediment and a huge rocky white head which was mostly lasting. Aroma was of grape skin with hints of pear, orange zest, light bready notes and coriander. Flavor was lightly acidic with grapes, apple skins, orange zest (mild), a light bitterness, touch of alcohol and a lightly spicy finish. Medium bodied with soft carbonation, slight watery texture and an ok finish. A bit thin.

I only bought a stubby of this when I had the chance to purchase a bottle, should have bought the bottle as I enjoyed this. Light orangey golden body with a lasting compact head. A little bit of lemon in the aroma which doesn’t seem to belong, some spice and pepper. A bit of butter in the taste, candi sugar and I thought there was some caramel at first but don’t seem to notice them now, smooth medium body and a good long finish.
