COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is another Abbey Brewing Co. house recipe. This strong Trappist Style Ale is reminiscent of the winter ales brewed in the Belgium Monastery’s centuries ago. This beer is brown in color and has a complexity of flavors ranging from dark chocolate to caramelized raisons with a hint of toffee. 11-12%ABV.

Murky purplish-brown. Fruity, bubblegummy nose. Deeply fruity - sour cherries, blackberry, some earthy notes. Stiff alcoholic finish. Big, chewy, fruity.

Draft at Abbey. Poured a dark brown color with an average creamy off-white head that mostly lasted and produced fair lacing. Medium to heavy complex yeasty and fruity aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture. Good complex bittersweet flavor with a medium sweet & sour finish of moderate duration. Good complex brew.

Pours a deep dark maroon color, with a small off white head. Smells very fruity, almost wine-like, with a good dose of cherries, apples, dark malts, rasins, and very subtle candy sugar. The flavor is heavy on the sweet fruit side. Wasnt expecting this at all. Its almost a fruit beer, unlike any quad Ive ever tried. The cherry really stands out as the most dominant flavor. Light alcohol burn in the finish, but not bad at all for 12%. Unusual quad, but quite enjoyable.

Tap @ the Abbey Brewing Co. Raisin colored, deep reddish hue. Aroma of rich malts. Flavors of sweet candi sugar, big raisins. Hints of dried cherry, and even some dried cranberry. So fruity, yum. A perfect comparison to 3 Phils. Plus the alcohol is well hidden. Thanks to Beershine for the drink. 24FEB08

(Draught at Abbey Brewing Company, Miami Beach) Hazy amber color, offwhite head. Lots of figs and raisins in aroma, smoked notes, some toffe and with a vinous feeling. Fruity fig and raisin flavor, some spices, some hops, a bit vinous.

UPDATED: FEB 22, 2008 While I really like Belgian-style beers I never know what to expect from the quad syle, and am as often as not disappointed. This is not one of those times. I felt this beer to be a fine example of the style. Aroma was a bit fruity and more roasty than I would’ve expected. Flavor was complex, as advertised, with some sour cherry up front followed by some raisin and backed with a lot of roastiness. And if furrow my brow and pretend really hard, I can even conjure up toffee. Mouthfeel was good but unremarkable. Quite nice. I’d drink this often if this bar was in Milwaukee. Recommended. I had this at The Abbey in Miami Beach on tap.

Rich brown; minimum head. Sweet and rich fruit and malt aroma and flavors. Flavors also of chestnuts, sweet malts, funky fruit, slight alcohol, phenols and wine notes as it warms up. Not smoothly balanced but fun! On tap at brewery 1/29/07.
