UPDATED: AUG 24, 2006 Draught at the brewery. Aroma has a ton of sweet fruit and oily, piney hops, with grapefruit and orange scents. Flavor is considerably different - intensely fresh grassy and gritty hop flavor, but completely lacking any sweetness to balance the bitterness of the hops. Seriously this is one of the most bitter beers I’ve ever had, and that’s not a good thing. Seems they used enough hops for a DIPA but didn’t add enough malt sweetness. This thing just about killed my palate in only seconds.

Had this at the Harrisburg brewfest in 2007. Great IPA. Big hops and citurs aroma. Real clear and crisp. A bit of some pine resin. Best IPA at the fest.

In the commercial description it states "The brewer decided to go all out and really put a ton of hops in this batch." Boy what a true description - tastes like a homebrew, way too much sweet overtones in the excessive amount of hops. Copper and super floral aroma with the hops. An OK beer.

On tap, at brewpub. Pours a clear dark copper under a whispy film of off-white head. Aroma is of moderate piney and floral hoppiness with some light toffee and caramel malt below. Rather soft smelling actually. Flavor is quite bracing though. Just all bitterness from front to back. Not hoppy at all, just intensly bitter. It’s like I chewed on a hop cone then took a sip of water to wash it down. Absolutely no malt balance at all. Mouthfeel is light bodied with fizzy prickly carbonation. Finishes thin and bitingly bitter. Overall, this was pretty bad. Like I was chewing on hop pellets on a homebrew day. God damn this needs some malt.

I had the pleasure of meeting the brewers from this new brewery at The Micro Brew Festival in State College. These experienced home brewers made the move to commercial equipment only a few moths ago and the beer is already impressive. This review is written from notes. The Hippee IPA has a big citrus bite. Pine in the nose and especially piney in the aftertaste. This is simply an easy quaffable IPA. Well-done Abbey Wright. I hope to see more great beers from you in the future. Until next time.

Sampled at State College BrewExpo. This is a nice big bitter brew. Floral grapefruit notes from an amber-orange clear body. Nice foamy off-white head. Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Fruity and bitter from start to finish, leaving a puckeringly dry after. In all, well put together but just a bit too harsh.

UPDATED: AUG 27, 2007 This is a very new brewer - established in 2006. Sampled on draft at the State College beer festival this beer poured a cloudy medium gold color with a large yellow-white head. The aroma has light elements of pine and grapefruit. The flavor is piney and fruity with a sharp bitter finish.
