COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A similar recipe as the Highlander Scottish Ale, only aged for 1 month on oak chips. A throwback to when traditional Scottish Ales were stored in oak barrels.

Draft. Pours dark brown with off-white head. Nose is malty, with maple syrup, licorice, molasses, and slight rauchy notes. Tastes malty with molasses up front, earthy, with finishing nuts and woody hints.

Growler at BCTC 2009. Pours a deep amber thin head. Aroma is nutty, smoky, toasted malts, caramel, oak is low to medium- hints of vanilla. Bacon and smoke flavor over caramel and crystal malts, toast, biscuit, toffee sweetness, some thinning brown sugar, nutty chocolate, more smoke, light oak and vanilla. OK.

kramer (4684) - Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA - OCT 21, 2009
Growler. Pours a dark reddish brown with a one finger fizzy beige head that left some light lacing. Light smoke on the nose with a light but noticeable oak character. Some dark fruits, caramel, and roast. The flavor is a little dry, lightly oaky and and smoky with a slightly grainy husky finish. A little bit of burnt caramel and roast. Mouthfeel is thinner, a little course and grainy, with fizzy carbonation. Pretty decent, especially for Abbey Wright.

BCTC. Many thanks to the incredible generosity of the RB crowd. Dark reddish brown with ring. Smokey oak caramel astringent aroma. Mild smoek caramel nuts with bitter sweet cloying finish. Soft cloying palate. Very cloying and sticky.

On tap at the Abbey Wright. Dark umber brown pour with no head. Smokey bitterness, clear and clean with a malt backbone. This was an average Ale that had a slight bitterness throughout.

Brewed in the USA..... On tap at the Brewery. Pours a very dark brown color with zero head. Aroma of smoke, malts and oak. I agree with AFI96 about the rum & coke !!! It was ok, but once again it was average at best. I think in time the beers might improve with a little extra effort.

On tap at the brewpub. A dark hazy brown beer with almost no head. The smell was roasty, earth, oak, and light peat smoke. The flavor was roasted malts and cola. Very boozy considering the abv. Thin and fizzy as well. It tasted more like a rum and coke than beer. The only one of my sampler flight that I couldn’t finish.

On tap at the brewpub. Dark. Brown-black. A touch of peaty pig-fat smoke. Tangy. Chewy. Drinkable. Salty. Oaky. Fresh. A nice session beer. This has a fantastic malt character. I think the barrel contribution was solid. The smoked character was maybe 30-40% and made a great contribution. I loved this!

Sampled at Pints for Pets. Mildly assertive smoky oak-peat aroma with light hops and some sweet malty character. Dark brown-black clear with thin head. Medium watery body with some high carbonation. Starts dry and roasty with smoke and light meaty notes. Woody bitter finish with light tannic back. Sweet nutty, smoky finish.
