COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Regular.
Best Bitter is a very traditional bitter beer, the sort that has always been a huge part of life in the local community, along with Yorkshire pudding and teaching your whippet to play t'euphonium. A good all-night session vocal lubricant for anyone not driving home. Grist Is mainly Maris Otter Pale Ale malt with crystal and black malts to give a more traditional bite. Hops are a carefully balanced recipe, including English Fuggles along with Target and Cascade.

Mid amber colour. Clammy hop and stinky malt in the aroma. Clean flavour, but nothing very exciting comes through. Soft mouthfeel, with a touch of chewy malt. Slightly sour, citric hop finish. Worthy, but unspectacular. Cask, London Drinker beer festival.

UPDATED: OCT 11, 2006 1. Cask Handpump at the Station Buffet, Stalybridge 16/11/2002 Definitely one of my favourite best bitters which has never disappointed wherever it’s been sampled. Golden coloured with orange and lemon fruits and a smooth bitter finish with some dryness. 2. Cask Handpump at the George & Dragon, Great Budworth 02/07/2003 Amber golden slightly citrus with a malt hop finish. 3. Cask Handpump at the George & Dragon, Great Budworth 25/02/2004 Amber golden hoppy and fruity citrus with a creamy smooth bitter finish. 4. Cask Handpump at the George & Dragon, Great Budworth 11/05/2004 Golden amber fruity citrus and hoppy with a slightly bitter dry finish. 5. Cask Handpump at the George & Dragon, Great Budworth 01/06/2004 Golden hoppy and fruity orange with a slightly dry lasting finish.

Bright bottled from London Drinker festival. 36 hours ago. Clear amber session bitter. Beautiful aroma - warm and malty with suggestions of chocolate yet alive with citric notes from oranges. Neutral palate with medium to thin body. The hops make a big impact, though they are a bit blurred and on the whole are more bittering than fragrant. The chocolate notes are repeated in the flavour. This is a very tasty bitter which has stood up very well to being kept off the yeast for so long. Some of the freshness has gone, and the hops are not as precise, but the aroma is certainly more evident, and the malt quality better defined.

Plain bitter appearance with a watery caramel aroma. Hopped flavour with a slight citric finish, but basically a plain slightly bitter session beer.
