COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Regular.
The beer was very deliberately brewed to have an alcohol content of 6.66%. A five pointed grist - Maris Otter Pale Ale malt, Malted Wheat, Chocolate Malt, Roast Barley and Cereal... with a wickedly-secret combination of hops....Black Mass has the flavour of dark fruits, bitter chocolate and liquorice with a bitter coffee, warm, alcoholic finish. Decadent. Black as sin.

Cask @ 12th Ayrshire Real Ale Festival, Troon 2011. Dark brown - ruby red colour, beige head. Nose is deep roasted malts, coffee, bit of lemon and fres soap, citrus. Flavour is deep roasted malts, coffee, liquorice, little vanilla, hoppy, citrus. Packed with flavour at only 6.7%. This is a real gem that can challenge most imperial stouts in flavour, but definitely can top them in drinkability. Superb.

Cask Conditioned at The Plough, Bodicote, Oxon. Black as a witches t*t with a tan head. Heavy thick stout, have your last rites read before a session of this, chewey fruit with a chicory powdery background, theres no letting up of the heavy roast notes, if this is imperial stout then I want more, take me into your darkness, envelope me with sticky licorice notes. Let the devil take me, compare this with commercial stout of the Irish kind, no comparison indeed.

First tasted this at the Paisley Beer Festival. Handpull dispense. Ruby black in colour with an open thin white head which disappeared quickly. Beautiful intense aroma of syrupy raisins coffee and chocolate notes. Dark malt complex gives a huge sweet malt base with strong damson flavours. Slight prickle of hops in the aftertaste but sweetness prevails in the finish with black treacle. A cracking old ale this and highly recommended.

Cask, The Interval Cafe, Sheffield. Deep brown but not quite black. Burnt chocolate, coffee and prune aroma. Slick texture, oily with an underlying brightness from the hops. Sweet, but not overwhelming. Liquorice and walnut come out on the long alcohol infused finish.

Cask at the Pembury Tavern, London on 19th June 2009. Intensely dark, quickly diminshing magnolia-coloured head. Strong coffee aroma, roasted malt in the kick which is augmented by bitter hop notes and a hint of peppery piquancy. Goes to a long, sustained bitter finish with the roasted malt flavours remaining throughout. A delicious stout, which I enjoyed very much.

This is a pitch black beer that is as dangerous as its 6.66 alcohol. A thick, syrupy beer that is not too cloying. Roast malts are well balanced with sweetened black coffee. More like an imperial stout - this is powerful stuff/

Ruby red/black beer with a deep head. The aroma is intense alcohol and the flavour is bitter and mainly strongly alcoholic. Overall a good strong beer.

Cask at GBBF 2007. A dark amber-brown beer with a thin beige head. The aroma is sweet malthy with strong notes of caramel as well as light notes of alcohol. The flavor is sweet malthy with notes of caramel, alcohol, and roasted malt, leading to a finish where especially the caramel notes carries thru.

Cask conditioned - gravity dispense - Northampton BF. A black coloured stout with a good white head. The aroma is roasty and smoky. The taste is more roast and smoke with good alcohol notes. A little sourness on the finish and lots of body. A good beer.
