COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Regular (formerly Occasional). A replacement for Abbeydale Best Bitter.
Russet brown beer made with Amarillo hops. It has aromas of malt loaf, marmalade and apricots with some burnt toast coming through from the dark malt. The flavours are of coffee, toffee and liquorice with underlying spices, especially cloves. There is bitterness throughout, growing during the long finish. Abbeydale’s refreshing take on a classic English bitter.
The brewers who invented the name had visions of the ruined abbey on a sea of fire or something suitably brimstoney. But the artist comes up with a horned devil in a pentacle.

Cask, Turf Tavern, Oxford. Used penny copper with a small sticky layer of fine off-white. Nose of spicy warm tropical places--passionfruit, mangos, cinnamon. Flavor is sun-ripened pink grapefruit, a bit of honeydew mellon finish. A hop centric bitter, but the malt seems to round things out nicely and lowering the frequency of the whole to a satisfying level. (From soprano bitter to an alto bitter.) Very nice.

UPDATED: AUG 9, 2008 Beautifully fruity Turkish delight flavoured hoppy red pint with a hint of strawberry and a crisp parting bitterness. Fragrant, perfumey and packed with flavour and hop tanginess for a 3.9 percenter.

A mid amber browncoloured beer with a weak head. Light citrusy hop aroma. with a hint of biscuity malt. The taste is dry, citrus hops along with a spicy malt undertone. The finish is dry. (Cask - @ The Fox & Hounds Summer Beer Festival 2006, Heacham, Norfolk).

Cask@Out of the Valults, Leicester. Light brown beer with a slightly caramel and lightly bitter aroma and a strongly dry flavour with a watery texture. Overall a reasonable dry beer.

Cask, Out of the Vaults, Leicester. Ruby red/brown with a small head. Aromas are toffee malts with lots of berries, some sourness, quite earthy and hoppy. Flavours are fruity, dry and hoppy. Not so malty as the aroma with a bitter, dry fruity finish.

Hand pulled at the Wellington, Birmingham. Brown bitter, with a slim head. Nice crispy hops, good fragrance. The initial hit gives way to a malt mintiness, and quite a long bitterness to finish. Peters out slightly, but still an enjoyable flagon of ale.
