Cask gravity at Planet Thanet BF 08. It’s funny, I could see what people were saying about this on the Saturday, but my rating from the Friday still stands. Chestnut colour with thin bubbly off white head. Yep, you get the amarillos on the aroma, some caramel. Fairly watery in mouth, not a lot of condition. Some good amarillo on finish. OK, but just lacks some body.

[RBESG, Sheffield]
Cask @ The Museum, Sheffield.
Pours a nice, clear copper-amber with a super, staying, frothy, off-white head. Mild aroma with toasted caramel and subdued liqourice. Rather watery palate, soft carbonation. Flavour starts sweet and malty. Some heather honey and a herbal edge (perhaps thyme?). Toasted caramel make up the malty backbone. Long, bitter aftertaste with piney notes. Okay, but too thin.

A Mes rate: Gravicask at Planet Thanet 2008. Dark copper coloured. Glorious hoppy aroma with lovely barley, awesome notes of ginger and some slight orange. The Amarillo shows through really well in the flavour with some nice earthy malt and a gloriously bitter finish. Bags of flavour and character, gorgeous spicy notes. Stunning stuff for a 3.8% beer and a top drawer all day drinker drop of English.

Cask. At Ye Old Mitre, Hatton Garden, London. Slightly cloudy amber with a nice-sized lasting frothy beige head. Dry, slightly dusty malt aroma, somewhat sweet, with fairly pungent mint leaf/grassy hops. The taste followed right on, the mint/herbal hop character was clearly dominant, and fresh, running to a longish gentle bitter finish. Nice light cask mouthfeel, not too sweet, a good balance between mild malt and non-aggressive fresh hop bitterness - an excellent starter pint for the day!
