2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 leaparsons (6320) - Leicester, - MAR 14, 2007
Cask, Loughborough Fest 07. Very dark brown with a small head. Aromas are earthy roast malts with light liquourice. Flavours are chocolate and light, sweet malts. Far too thin, lacks any depth. Dull but OK.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 weaselkenievil (1093) - Cheshire, ENGLAND - DEC 21, 2010
Cask at Manchester Winter Ales festival. Dark brown almost black with a medium tan head. To be honest, it was nice enough but not what I was expecting. Not a lot of chocolate in aroma, little coffee. Getting chocolate in the flavour although only mild, bit nutty and earthy. Not bad.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 SaintMatty (2841) - Uppsala, SWEDEN - FEB 1, 2010
Cask (Guide Dog, Southampton) - Black in colour. Chocolate, coffee and roasted malt feature in the aroma. Smooth and roasted taste with chocolate, roasted malt and hints of coffee.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 harrisoni (10067) - Ashford, Kent, ENGLAND - DEC 28, 2009
Cask handpull at Crosse Keys, JDW, London. Very dark brown with thin beige disappearing head. It has some nice enough hoc. Not very stouty, more like a choccy best bitter. OK bitterness on finish. Touch of charcoal.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20 DruncanVeasey (5136) - NUNEATON, Blue Square Prem, Warwickshire, ENGLAND - DEC 8, 2009
Unretired, The Crown, Nuneaton, 08/12/09 and 4.5% ABV. Black with red edges and a scoop of beige. Coal and cocoa aroma. Watery with traces of ash, burnt wood and cranberry. Sugar puff roastiness with a rub of soap. Still and vaguely burnt. Not the thick smoky treat I was hoping for, but forced 3 pints down all the same.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Fin (5749) - Merton, Oxfordshire, England, Oxfordshire, ENGLAND - FEB 19, 2007
Cask conditioned gravity dispense at Merton Beer Festival 16-02-07. Poured a very dark brown in colour, bitter coffee mostly on the nose, taste wasn’t as choclatey as expected and whilst this was nice enough it really struggled when compared to it’s nearest competitor the Rother Valley Co co Hops. Reasonably full bodied and flavoursome but never really grabbed me.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 imdownthepub (7461) - Banbury, Oxfordshire, ENGLAND - FEB 18, 2007
Cask conditioned at Merton Beer Fest 07. Black with brown hue and tan head. A nicely balanced stout for me, plenty of coffee husk notes and a deep roasted element, but also some fruitiness in the malt. Full and dark, quite good.
