Cask, Turf Tavern, Oxford RB Crawl. Pale gold, white head. Bright raspberry aroma and pineapple. Grapefruit and pineapple hops, very delicate malt. A refreshing little beer. Hits the spot.

A Mes rate: Cask at Far From the Madding Crowd, Oxford during the RB pub crawl.
Nice clean gold colour, sadly it’s lacking a bit of condition. Really pleasant hoppy aroma with a slight estery note, a bit of tobacco and a very delicate hint of ginger. Flavour is really mellow but very pleasant. Polite citric hoppage with a faint earthy feel to it and an enjoyable bitterness on the finish. Drinks below its strength and as a result I struggled to get this rate finished before I drained my glass. Rather nice.

Cask conditioned at Far from the Madding Crowd, Oxford on the Ratebeerian day around Oxford 09-02-08 Poured light gold with little or no head, wonderfully clear. If I’m being critical I think it was served just a tiny bit on the warm side. Good sweet fruits on the aroma and then some fruits in the mouth some citrus from the hops, bitterness a bit soft, I liked this but have had much better from Abbeydale.

Cask handpull, Far From the Madding Crowd, Oxford, RB Pub crawl 08. Pale gold with thin white head. Bit buttery, golden ale with some hop. Bit soapy too. Slightly acidic. Not my favourite.

Cask at Far from the Madding Crowd, Oxford, on Ratebeer Oxford Day ’08. Pale gold. Grassy hop aroma. Unusual spicy taste with a mid bitter finish. Not bad.

Cask conditioned at Far from the Madding Crowd, Oxford Ratebeerian day. Pale gold with white head. Another quite decent beer from Abbeydale, this seemed to be in good nick with floral lemony hops on a slightly thinnish background, some oily hop notes too. Silky and reasonably well balanced, I found this to be quite reasonable.

Cask conditioned - handpump - Out Of The Vaults, Leicester. A straw blonde coloured beer with a loose white head. I’m afraid to say this was pretty nasty both in smell and taste. I couldn’t work out if I was tasting meat or vegetables or both, probably both, and if it weren’t for the little bit of citrus hop note I got in the aftertaste I would have doubted I was drinking anything from Abbeydale at all. Really hard to finish half a pint, but I bravely coped.
