Can’t undestand the name, is it for invalids or does int turn you into one, mix it with Carlton Draught for a nasty, old man black n’ tan.

Typical clear black, with next to no head and not much lacing. A weak watery aroma, but I managed to find some roasted malt manifesting itself as burnt instant coffee. The roasted bitterness in the flavour seems to hang out there rather than integrating into the rest of the beer. This may have something to do with the short, exceptionally thin and very gasst palate. This seems a lot weaked than 5.2%, and considering the other good aussie stouts out there widely available I couldn’t find a single reason to consume this again.

Nutty brunt malt aroma. Dark brown colour with poor head and lacing. Burnt malt flavour. Fizzy palate.

13 Jul 2005 - Clear black-brown colour, good brown head with a sheet-suds lacing Sweet smokey malt aroma with not much fruit. sweet, light bacon smoked flavour, but lacks complexity and is not true to stout style. Lacks balance (fruit-malt-hop), has some bitterness and a bit flat and very thin. This is a lager with some roated malt and ’stout’ label.

Deep black colour, poor light tan head, no lacing. Coffee in the taste, lightweight body, toasted malt, burnt characters in the aroma, I like stouts, simple but drinkable.

Pours black with a bubbly brown head, tastes fairly thin, but still has some nice stouty flavours, coffee mostly. Also seems a bit overcarbonated, by far the best beer from CUB

<i<Bottled. Black with beige head. Aroma of coffee and dark chocolate. Dry and roasty with light body and a hint of ash and metal. There’s loads of coffee, and a hint of syrupy sweetness rounds it off. Despite all other Carlton beers I’ve tasted being crap I find myself liking this solid beer.

Dark brown to black, ’clean looking’. Weak head, very thin on pouring and not surprisingly disappears in no time. A bit of non-descript sweetness on the nose but well backed some some darker roasted notes. Fizzed up in the mouth (CUB are so bloody predictable) which makes it tough for any real stout flavours to come through. Some roasted malty sweetness came through eventually but doesn’t really carry the beer. I’ve definately had better so to be fair I’ll revisit in due course.
