(Abdij van t Park Bruin) Bottle 330 ml at home, served into a big tulip, ABV 6% Deep brown colour on the body, tall and quite thick tan head on top, with average retention. Aroma of malts, caramel, iron, light yeast. Taste is mildly sweet with caramel, metallic notes, dust, light yeast. Medium thin body, good carbonation. Much better than their blond but nothing more than decent.

The beer looks good. The color is ruby red. The beer has a tremendous red glow, very nice. The beer is quite clear. On top, a layer of rough almond colored foam is formed after pouring. The bulk of the foam collapses quickly, but a tiny drape of foam remains. The smell is very nice. The smell had a nice alcohol aroma. The first aroma that reaches the nose is a sweet fruity aroma, filled with bananas and some grapes. The smell is a good blend between sweet, bitter and a hint of sour. There is also a little nutty aroma. The taste is slightly less. There is s nice little smokey flavor. The fruitiness in the smell is to mild in the taste. The alcohol is clearly present. This results in a bitter beer, where the balance is a little bit lost. The should be a bit more fruit in the flavor, this would make it a perfect beer. Now it is just a good beer, that just misses some balance.

Kolor ciemno br?zowy, klarowny. Piana be?owa, trwa?a, drobno p?cherzykowa. Aromat: bardzo ubogo, karmel, mas?o. Smak: podobnie, tylko karmel, na ca?e szcz??cie mas?o jest nieobecne. Piwo lekko kwaskowe, co równowa?y nadmiar karmelowej s?odyczy. Goryczka chmielowa, delikatna, równie? balansuje s?odycz. Wysycenie wysokie, mo?e przeszkadza?. Alkohol schowany.

Pours dark brown, almost black, with a high greyish head. Pretty dry and malty, moderately sweet with hints of warm caramel. Enjoyable enough if you take your time.

Rating from old notes; tasted in its original Riva version many years ago and more recently in the current Haacht version. Cheap abbey dubbel for the Aldi supermarket chain, stable, sticky, yellowish white head, clear burgundy colour. Rather straightforward aroma of caramel, some herbal hops, some iron, hints of dried fruits and nuts; same for the taste, simple malt sweet, bit thin, bit metallic, but fortunately dark malts have effectively been used here so there are caramelly and even slightly bitter-roasted malt hints in the background; low hop bitterness. Very straightforward, rather bland dubbel, but still just a little bit more tolerable than that awful Leffe Brune or even Grimbergen Dubbel, if you ask me.

33cl bottle. Clear brown colour with a nice off-white head. Caramel, light roasted and syrup in the aroma. Average carbonation and medium body. Taste is more on the sweet side, quite light taste. Overall, drinkable but not remarkable but not expensive either. I preferred the blonde.
