GeneralGao (3051), Iowa City, Iowa, USA Jan 27, 2008 Tasting notes from 7/12/07. Bottle purchased at La Cave ŕ Bulles in Paris. Poured a hazy medium orange-brown color. The aroma was subdued overall with only hints of burnt caramel and toasted bread. Delicately sweet on the tongue with ample carbonation. There was an earthy/leafy note with a hint of clove and a toasty malt backbone. Not bad. iowaherkeye (1832), Bakersfield, California, USA Dec 5, 2007 07/12/07, thanks Colin (General Gao). Cloudy light brown with a small creamy light beige head. Aroma was toasty with some light roast and a little brown sugar. Flavor was toasty and a little bitter, light sweetness as well. Light body with moderate carbonation. Decent. heemer77 (4294), Savannah, Missouri, USA Jul 15, 2007 From a shared bottle, thanks to General Gao. The body was cloudy copper with a yellowish head. The aroma was rich toffee with some pears and cellar character. There was also some cinnamon. The taste was strong cinnamon with some funky socks. There was also a flowery note with old socks. If you like funk in your Belgian style ale, this would be good for you. JorisPPattyn (5155), Antwerpen, Belgium Feb 27, 2005 Gushing to creamy, coffee-cream coloured beer, fed by lively carbonation in a murky red-brown-olive beer. Great malt whisky nose, not unlike islands malts. Brown malts, tad wood and smokey, piney. Leafy, earthy, slightly smoked taste, perfectly balanced (at 6%, I’m more than impressed!). Woody, malty flavours, tad of chocolate, but more mild-sweet than bitterish. Not cloying! Medium to well-bodied, certain slickness, "earthy" feel. Wow, this is good! Another proof that the strength of France’s AND Brittany’s beerrevival lies for a big part in their dark malt beers. Try to find this one.
