3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Tallahassee, Fl - Market Square Liquors - 22 oz bomber. Very dark chestnut brown pour with a sticky off-white head that leaves plenty of sticky lacing. Aroma is not very prevalent - brief hints of toffee and licorice. Flavor is subtle and mellow. Some nuttiness, some dark chocolate, very brief mentions of vanilla. Back end has some licorice notes, and just a bit of toffee sweetness. Mouthfeel has a velvety smoothness to it. About average.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle from The Davis Beer Shoppe in Davis, CA. Pours very dark brown/black with a 3 finger foamy tan head. Aroma of dark not quite burnt malt with som chocolate and vanilla. Near med body. The vanilla and chocolate are pretty much dominant. Some roast malt follows, and there must be some hop in here, but other than some bitterness itís hard to pin down. This is a very unusual beer. Like BA without the bourbon. Like stout without body. Damn drinkable tho.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
The aroma is chocolate, nuts, earth. The appearance is brown, white head. The flavor is chocolate, some vanilla, nuts, slight molasses. The finish is pine and grapefruit hops, lingering vanilla sweetness. Medium in boy. Not bad. Mostly like a brown ale. Reasonable price, $4.99/bomber.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a nice deep red with a sloppy head - body is full of bubbles. Aromas are mellow; plentiful of caramel and vanilla with a hint of hops. The taste is initially bitter of hops, but then comes down to a light toffee flavor. Finishes dry with a subtle, yet lingering vanilla aftertaste. The way it is described though, I expected way much more explosive flavors for a demanding palette.

2.6 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Man, was I disappointed with this one. I really expected a bigger, more flavorful turbodog style beer. For a 7% ABV beer is was kind of watery and had non-existent aroma. Color was murky dark brown with a hint of red. Not much head retention which was another confirmation of the lack of body and overal watery mouhfeel for a "big" beer. Seemed undercarbonated too. I wouldnít have noticed any vanilla flavor at all except that it was labelled as having vanilla on the bottle. The aroma was weak. The overall flavor was out of balance and was very heavy on the roasty/ashy component but didinít have much else going on besides some grassy hop in the finish. I drank it, but didnít order another one. It was not worth the money and I was disappointed.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
22 ounce bottle - $4.99 at Olde Crabapple Bottle Shoppe in Alpharetta, Georgia.
Appearance: Pours a very dark brown body with an initially tall, beige head that drops down fairly soon.
Smell: Toasty, nutty with slighter backings from roast, caramel, and unsweetened chocolate and the thinnest notion of one lonely raisin. Subtle hint of vanilla, which Iím hard to honestly fault, as I canít really recall a vanilla-flavored beer that knocked my socks off when it came to the vanilla additive.
Taste: Sweetish tastes of roasty malts, toasted nuts, a small pinch chocolate powder, a whisper of caramel, and a bit of vanilla bean. Very lightly earthy hops with a low bitterness. Low fruitiness. Though "natural vanilla beans" are specifically mentioned on the bottle, itís got a bit of harshness akin to a small sip of vanilla extract. Malty, vanilla extract-hinted finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied (just barely). Medium carbonation. Soft mouthfeel.
Overall: Though the name is íDoubleí Dog, they kept it closer to the easy-going, drinkable roots of the standard Turbodog. Not that great, no, but as far as bomber prices go, Iím not about to get riled up over five bucks. Iím really not!

2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Sampled from bomber at cah downtown. Pours a clear brown with chestnut highlights and decent khaki head. Smells and tastes like a tootsie roll. Donít really get the vanilla, but lots of fake chocolate and bitter earthiness. Blah.
