COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Abbey Ale honors the ancient tradition of monks who perfected the art of brewing beer to support the monastery and the brothers with their "liquid bread". We offer up our support and thank them with a 25 cent donation to St. Joseph’s Abbey with every bottle of this heavenly brew. Dark in amber color, the aroma of caramel, fruits and cloves invites you to contemplate the creamy head of this "dubbel" or double ale. Abita Abbey Ale is a malty brew, top-fermented and bottle aged to rapturous perfection.

Sweet caramel and sour yeast Belgian aroma wafting off of this one! Beautiful reddish-orange color with a white head. Nice sourness around the sides of the tongue with sweet malt and alcohol rolling over the top. Nice, lingering aftertaste makes this a great Belgian style ale.

Draft sample at an Abita tasting at Stein’s Market and Deli during American Craft Beer Week. Pours a semi-cloudy deep orange-amber color with a big off-white head. Aroma of caramel, bready malts, orange citrus, biscuit, honey, clove, and yeast. Flavor of caramel, bread, citrus, toast, honey, yeast, and spices. Medium-bodied, with low carbonation and a sticky mouthfeel. A decent abbey dubbel, but a far cry from many others in the style.

Bottle purchased at friendly mini-mart in Lakewood. Aroma us yeasty with a bit of banana and clove. Flavor is pretty bland and fluffed out. Palate doesn’t even linger on the mind or mouth for more than a second.

750ml bottle in a Trappist glass. Pours opaque, chocolate brown with small tan head. Aroma strong of caramel with citrus/herb notes. Sweet and malty at first, but finishes with an abrupt bitterness. Not bad, but not great.

22oz bottle shared thanks to Mike. Poured a deeper amberish (almost brown) color with a small sized off white head. Aromas of yeastiness and some dark fruits. Tastes of, and yes I swear, ’Sushi’. I kept getting Nori. I must have been in the mood for Sushi.
