2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Abita Abbey - Ample head with consistent rings of lacing. Aroma of raisins, apples, and yeast, along with a hint of spices. Flavor is where it goes downhill - not very complex or elegant for the style at all - very acidic with a tart apple taste that overwhelms almost everything else except for some bready malt. Seems more like a less-than-stellar tripel than the dubbel it’s labeled as. Not thrilled with this abbey. Booze is poorly hidden as well - kind of a mess overall, really. Will finish this bomber, but do not want to get again.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle. Pours a slightly darker amber color with an absurdly thick head. The head precludes my ability to smell the beer, but I do get some hints of sweetness on the nose. A nice robust malty flavor without the sweetness I expected.

Decent but definitly lacking. Aromas of rasin and clove. Brown kind of ugly with an offwhite foam. Dark fruit and clove in the sweet region but without depth and character. Medium full and balanced.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
A-- Poured a reddish brown with a light brown head. A one inch head that was fluffy and kept its retention well. Good lacing with the glass and decent carbonation.
S-- Sweet, bready, dark fruit and cloves with this. Fairly malty beer.
T-- A little bitter. Not as sweet as the smell is. The fruits come out more in the taste.
M-- Fairly carbonated and lively in the mouth but the burnt/ bitter taste really dominates in this.
D-- Needs to be a bit sweeter I think. ABV is apparent but later in drinking this. Smell is very good but the rest fails. There are better US attempts in Dubbles out there. One is enough.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Poured from bottle into a trappist glass, it looks nice with a deep amber color minimal head, the aroma is malt and yeast, taste is caramel, definite citrus tang to it, is sweet but can’t distinguish any particular fruit, carbonation is good with a little bitter aftertase and residual alcohol warmth
