COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Abbey Ale honors the ancient tradition of monks who perfected the art of brewing beer to support the monastery and the brothers with their "liquid bread". We offer up our support and thank them with a 25 cent donation to St. Joseph’s Abbey with every bottle of this heavenly brew. Dark in amber color, the aroma of caramel, fruits and cloves invites you to contemplate the creamy head of this "dubbel" or double ale. Abita Abbey Ale is a malty brew, top-fermented and bottle aged to rapturous perfection.

Bottle. Head is initially average sized, frothy, light brown, mostly lasting. Body is medium amber. Aroma is moderately malty (caramel, toasted grain), lightly yeasty (cobwebs), with notes of orange, gum, cinnamon. Flavor is moderately sweet, moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, moderately acidic, moderately bitter, unclean. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation, lightly to moderately alcoholic. Unpleasantly sour (like fruit juice was added) with a dirty aftertaste, but the aroma is ok.

650 ml. bottle. Served at cellar temperature. Pours a thin off white head of short duration, over a clear dark amber (SRM 12) body.....nose is light grape, light cereal, bit of toffee/caramel....taste is sweet malts to start, then light plum, raisin, finishing sweet with a light tinge of coconut...mouth feel is light and slightly sticky, carbonation low. This does not have the depth of complexity found in many Dubbels. The malt is not as big and the flavor depth is missing. It is very sweet. BJCP 6/3/12/4/6

Transparent copper-brown in the glass. Aroma smells pretty similar to malt extract. Pretty sweet on the palate, seems to be fairly underattenuated. A bit disappointing, this really needs to be fermented more completely to better approximate the style.

Bottle thanks to my son, Keith (Fata2683), pours dark amber with scarce off-white head. Sweet bready malt aroma. Flavor dominated by honey, spices, and light fruit.

Tasted from a 650 mL bottle purchased in Fort Collins, Colorado. Pours a reddish body with a tan colored head. Slight candy sugar with a more pronounced raisin aroma with the typical Belgian smell. Kind of a flat body with dark candy sugar flavor that’s very untasty. Big alcohol taste in there. Incredibly disappointing and distasteful beer.

Bottle/22oz - Pours a dark brown in color with a small off-white head that fades to just "lace" covering the beer, Aroma is malty and very sweet with plenty of fruit... dark fruit mostly. Flavor is very sweet and malty with strong flavors of dark fruit (dates, prunes). No flavor or evidence of Belgian yeasts. Much too sweet for my tastes and not really to style. Just OK

Bomber poured a clear dark reddish amber with a small lingering amber head. Aromas of fig, dates, carmel, spice and toffee. Palate was light bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of carmel, toffe, spice, dates and figs with a smooth dry lingering dark fruit finish.

Pours a lovely dark brown, aroma is of fruits, grains, and yeast. This beer does disappoint a bit in the mouth-feel department because it is a little watery. The taste isn’t bad, but it really can’t compete with some of the other abbey style ales out there. The taste is abbey-ish with notes of raisins, breads, and nuts. Not a bad beer, but not even close to the best in this style.
