Tallahassee, Fl. - Liquor Loft - 22 oz bomber. Dark orange, slightly murky pour with a nice thick, sticky white head. Sweet, malty aroma with hints of molasses and brown sugar. Flavor is similarly sweet with some dates, raisins, brown sugar and molasses.Hint of cloves in the finish. Mouthfeel is thick and sticky. Abita jotted it up a notch with this one. Like the departure to the bombers that they seemed to have taken.

Deep muddy brown coloured body with a thinnish fast-dying tan head. Aroma of alcohol, pears, apples, yeast, concord grapes and sour lemons - nice! Medium-bodied; Assertive yeast and apple characteristics with a good malt backbone, some alcohol and pit fruity notes of figs and prunes. Aftertaste very pleasant and long-lasting, a good amount of sugars arise, while some mild yeast and malt characteristics round out the flavours. Overall, a pretty good dubbel and without a doubt the best Abita beer I’ve had. Definitely impressed with this from the brewery, get it if you like dubbels, since this is a respectable beer from an American producer. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Half Time in Poughkeepsie, New York on 27-November-2009, sampled at home in Washington on 13-December-2009.

In the bomber bottle from Lucy’s in New Orleans. Pours a deep amber burgundy color with a large beige head. Has a meaty aroma consisting of a slight smokiness. Thick and rich fruitiness with grapes and raisins. This is one nice beer to come out of Abita.

Pours dark caramel with a smal head. Aroma is funky sour dried fruit. Mouthfeel is thick and smooth with fairly low carbonation. Flavor is nice with heavy bread and dried fruit charactgeristics. A slight bit of bitterness and alcohol follow. A little harsher than some dubbels, but very good.

Bottled@Akkurat, Stockholm. Deep orangeish amber colour with a mediumsized pale beige head. Aroma is wood, caramel malts, mild raisins, some slight sweetness from the alcohol and also has some slight toasted notes. Flavour is quite similar in a nice balance, but also has a slight spicing to it.

Not bad. Poured a nice, thick, fine, very light tan head that lasts and some lace. Color is a clear medium amber. Aroma is caramel, malt, earth, yeast, and a bit of funk. Flavor is like nose, plus some definite sweet fruitiness and just a tad of bitterness in the background and on the back of the tongue. Body is decent and so is carbonation. Finish is like flavor and of medium length. Perhaps a tad sweet for my sessions.

The Dan Journal #253. Tasted 3/28/09. 22oz bomber. Hazy and sedimented with an amber brown hue. Ring of off-white head. Doughy yeasty aromas. Belgian yeast character. Touch honey and cinnamon with a milly toasty nose. This is quite nice. Medium bodied with a bright and tart palate. Zippy effervescence. Finishes dry with a lingering tinny, citrus flavor. Bright body with a dry bready middle. Mildly tart funky flavor. We got this fresh and I really liked it.

Dark brown and relatively clear. Impressive creamy, dense head. Caramel and molasses in the aroma, with some anonymous spices, perhaps cloves. Medium body, with a slight alcohol tingle in the mouth. I’m usually not much for typical Belgians, but this is lighter and more bright.

Bomber from BevMo Salinas. Nose is caramel, candi sugar, light fruit, and a light smoky note. Clear rusty red with a big, heavily lacing, beige head. Flavor is light sweetness, caramel, a light bitter note, and some alcohol warmth. Decent Dubbel! Better than most of the other Abita’s I’ve had.
