COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Abbey Ale honors the ancient tradition of monks who perfected the art of brewing beer to support the monastery and the brothers with their "liquid bread". We offer up our support and thank them with a 25 cent donation to St. Joseph’s Abbey with every bottle of this heavenly brew. Dark in amber color, the aroma of caramel, fruits and cloves invites you to contemplate the creamy head of this "dubbel" or double ale. Abita Abbey Ale is a malty brew, top-fermented and bottle aged to rapturous perfection.

Pours with a red body topped by a thick head with a good amount of lacing left on the glass. It’s slightly sweet and malty with strong anise notes and a touch of sourness. Full bodied and harsh.

From a bomber. Amber with a fine bubbled foam head. Mouth feel is lacking, but the profile is right. Thick and sweet. Lips are sticky after the first few swallows.

Aroma is rich sweet malt. Appearance is medium brown clear with medium off white frothy head. Taste is deep malt sweetness, bread crust, plum, minerally, bit of hop bitterness and roast. Palate is medium full. Sweetness lingers. Overall a nice dubbel. Deep malt flavor works, but more complexity would make this better. Not my favorite style, always wishing the dubbel just went the extra mile and became a quad.... but still a nice dubbel.

I didn't take any extra notes when I tried this beer for the first time but I'm gonna try it again and update my comments. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Medium full bodied, medium CO2, lingering bready caramel finish Very enjoyable dubbel. Easy to drink yet complex enough to keep you interested ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Nutty flavored beer with a strong almost smokey-like aroma. Deep auburn caramel color with limited clarity. Very cloudy appearance but not as deep colored as a Guinness. Medium carbonation with zero head at the top of the beer. Deliciously smooth finish that invites a second sip. Abita Abbey Ale is worth a try! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

This ones pretty good. NIce sweet aroma and taste. The color is really nice as well. I’ve had this a bunch of times on tap and in the bottle and it’s aways been pretty solid. It has a really good bready sweet taste which makes it easy to drink. Overall good stuff.

Aromas of dried fruit, bread and toffee. It gets a little lost in the carbonation. Copper with off white head. Same notes in the taste. Some spice as well.

its quite possible that my bottle is well past it’s prime. Nice doughy bread like aroma and flavor, with hints of dig and plumb, but not much else to it, and lacking in finish. Ok, but average at best."
