Abbey Ale honors the ancient tradition of monks who perfected the art of brewing beer to support the monastery and the brothers with their "liquid bread". We offer up our support and thank them with a 25 cent donation to St. Josephís Abbey with every bottle of this heavenly brew. Dark in amber color, the aroma of caramel, fruits and cloves invites you to contemplate the creamy head of this "dubbel" or double ale. Abita Abbey Ale is a malty brew, top-fermented and bottle aged to rapturous perfection.

I bought 2 bottles of this at 4.99 per thinking I could get more beer (Belgian abbey) for the buck. The 1st bottle was the funkiest wasabi spiked garbage Iíve had in a while. I was going to trash the brew masters reputation thoroughly. I opened the second bottle today and it was quite different. Still that indescribable wasabi-sour funk but not as prevalent. Appearance and pour are nice but that sour weirdness is a bit disconcerting. Now as it warms a bit the wasabi spike has diminished and its more of a sour apple. Iím going to the store now get a couple St Bernardus Abt12s

Nutty flavored beer with a strong almost smokey-like aroma. Deep auburn caramel color with limited clarity. Very cloudy appearance but not as deep colored as a Guinness. Medium carbonation with zero head at the top of the beer. Deliciously smooth finish that invites a second sip. Abita Abbey Ale is worth a try! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

This ones pretty good. NIce sweet aroma and taste. The color is really nice as well. Iíve had this a bunch of times on tap and in the bottle and itís aways been pretty solid. It has a really good bready sweet taste which makes it easy to drink. Overall good stuff.

Aromas of dried fruit, bread and toffee. It gets a little lost in the carbonation. Copper with off white head. Same notes in the taste. Some spice as well.

its quite possible that my bottle is well past itís prime. Nice doughy bread like aroma and flavor, with hints of dig and plumb, but not much else to it, and lacking in finish. Ok, but average at best."

Sipping this beer bought from a kitschy bodega on the ground floor of the fabulous hotel Iím staying in at the corner of Canal and Bourbon streets in NOLA. pours a dark scotch-like amber with a minimal white head. Aroma is sweet with notes of over-ripe fruit, apricots, figs and apples. medium body with a slightly off bitterness, notes of caramel and over-ripe banana. finish is slightly boozy. enjoyable but not overly so.

Transfer from BA reviewed on 3-11-12- - Poured from bottle into tulip shaped glass Appearance Ė Pours a rusty red-brown color. Upon pouring there is a huge thick foamy tan head that forms. It persists for some time giving way to some very nice lacing. Smell- Sweet fruit aromas abound. Apple and tropical fruits of banana and mango are the most potent. There is a bit of caramel and breadiness mixed in with the fruits as well. All in all, the aroma is quite potent and quite pleasant. Taste Ė It starts out with the fruit depicted in the nose. The apple and banana are the thickest and heartiest, but darker fruit and even a little bit of caramel are present and become more prevalent toward the middle of the taste. The taste experience finishes with a bit of a roasty and bready maltiness with a lingering bit of fruit and caramel sweetness. Mouthfeel Ė Medium bodied with a moderate level of carbonation. The body is a little bit thin for the abv and style and the carbonation a bit too high. Overall Ė Other than the mouthfeel, the beer really has very nice characteristics. It has a nice sweeter fruit profile mixed with a nice malty backbone. A fairly good sweeter dubbel.
