3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 FishManLA (337) - Abita Springs, Louisiana, USA - FEB 20, 2008
UPDATED: APR 3, 2008 Abita’s first beer. Brewed since 1986. It put them where they are today and it’s a good solid example of an American micro-brewed lager. A good, competent brew. Fresh and malty on the nose and a malty taste with only the slightest hint of hoppyness. Subtle finish of fresh bread. Abita’s description as well as a lot of the ratings mention "caramel". I don’t taste the caramel in this brew. I do like it though!

bottle in Louisiana. First beer after a long day of travel. So it might be a bit skewed. I enjoyed it quite a lot. And I’m not a big lager fan. Enough malts to give it a rich taste. Aroma was weak but not offensive. Flavor a nice caramel. Decent mouthfeel. Not sure in NOLA will have many micro options. If not,I’ll come back to this.

12 oz Bottle-Clear amber pour w/a slight head. Solid, easy drinking Amber w/flavors of roasted malt, caramel, toffee, & bread dough. If you like Ambers like I do, you will enjoy this beer. Very Yuengling like; definite session brew. Something you can enjoy & not think too much about.
2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 AR (685) - Georgia, USA - FEB 15, 2008
Not very smooth. Good feel as the beer lingers pleasantly. Acidic malt flavor.
2.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 mmmbeer (987) - Austin, Texas, USA - FEB 9, 2008
12 oz. bottle poured into lager glass- poured fair amber brown, minimal head (x>1mm) dissolved to nothing in a minute, extremely light carbonation. Aroma of light malt. Hits the mouth with a very thin body, the malt along with a tiny amount of hops are detectable, finish is crisp. Slightly before what I would consider an average vienna, but it did help put out the fire when I added too much green death to my crawfish Po’ Boy I was munching on at the time- it all equals out in the end.

Probably my favorite Abita so far. I like the hit of caramel on the end. Still have a few to try.

UPDATED: NOV 30, 2010 Copper-amber with a decent, creamy, fizzy off-white head / Simple corn and cooked fruit nose / Light body, watery, with fair finish / Simple corn and honey flavors / I love New Orleans, and I love drinking Abita in New Orleans, but this beer really isn’t very good.
2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 Guinness4Duff (515) - Tallahassee (and Poconos, PA), Florida, USA - FEB 2, 2008
Has an amber color as the name suggests. Not a very good aroma. Flavor is decent, a sweet malt with a very mild bitterness. Not too bad overall.
