Birdiebeagle (778), Perkasie, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 18, 2006 12 oz bottle Pours a clear amber with a small white head, which quickly goes away. Aroma is malty with a stale musty odor. Has a harsh taste. The maltiness doesn’t blend well. Seems to have an astringent taste followed by malts. BeerHawk (1175), Huntsville, Alabama, USA Jan 15, 2006 Draft at Barley’s Tap Room and Pizzeria in Knoxville. Last beer of the night while waiting for the cab. I guess I made a bad choice on the night ender. An amber color in the glass with an averaged sized white head that lasted. Very faint malty aroma. The flavor had some caramel, slight roastiness, and grain. Light and watery. Not a favorite of mine. trafford (171), Germantown, Tennessee, USA Jan 10, 2006 Not a bad attempt at a Vienna. Went well with Hot Wings and football. Very typical of Abita other than the turbo dog. Pigfoot (2226), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Jan 7, 2006 Clear, pale amber coloring, 1/4" creamy head, slims down quick.
Aroma: sweet, and slightly vegetal. Don’t like it, nossir. Are Munich style lagers supposed to smell like this? Not sure, there...
Crisp, clean on the palate, with a linger of that off-flavor detected in the nose, hanging a bit in the front. Slips off innocently, and the rest is easy to drink, and forgettable.
Actually, as more passes my lips and I get acquainted with it, it’s a pleasing passable lager, ...dry finish, slightly grainy texture, ...light body, briefly malty taste....I could drink this, if it were the alternatives were BMC croppola.
As I drain the glass, the lightly toasty malts become more appealing, and, darn it, I actually wish I had another.
Good, quality lager, this. qdog (201), Cleveland, Mississippi, USA Jan 6, 2006 Bottle, amber color, minimal off-white head, aroma of grains and some fruit, taste also has roasted grains with a little sweetness at the end. doesn’t leave a bad aftertaste. This beer is not bad for one I could run in any gas station here and get. I’d definitely drink it over bud, miller, or coors. FistFullOfCats (162), Raleigh, North Carolina, USA Jan 5, 2006 Bottle. Mark this as number 2 of Abita beers that are poorly rated here but left a very good impression on me. Flavor was far more like an American wheat than expected; sweet maltiness, strawberry, wheat, and a hint of caramel. Finishes with simple strawberry and caramel malt, though the strawberry tastes like an artificial sweetener version of the real thing. Sort of a saccharine aftertaste. Light bubbly body that I though matched the crisp tastes well, making this one a bit of a thirst quencher. I’m really surprised by the reaction here. Though not mind blowing, I really enjoyed this one. nick76 (2634), Tampa, Florida, USA Dec 27, 2005 The aroma is toasted malt, hay, paper, and chocolate. The appearance is amber as advertised and the head is small but foamy. The flavor is toasted malt, nuts, a little salt, and a sour taste that is hard to define. The palate is watery. Overall it’s drinkable but that’s about it. dkoonce (880), People’s Republic of Athens, Ohio, USA Dec 26, 2005 Amber color with a large head that dissipates slowly. Wet sock flavor. Not very drinkable.
