Murphy (1759), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA Oct 14, 2005 Light sugary caramel malt aroma. Thin head, brown clear body. Taste is cinnamon, brass, caramel, bitter minerals. Weak cloying finish. jewedekind (450), Middleton, Wisconsin, USA Oct 13, 2005 A weird one..but whaddya expect from Louisiana? Pours a yellow brew with a thin film of a head. Aroma of sawdust or hay. Taste is also woody. Cardboard and oak shavings. Really dry. I’ve never tasted anything like this before. Tastes like sawdust or balsa wood. Extra credit for originality and for hurrican relief. This is no amber...it is voodoo amber. GeneralGao (3051), Iowa City, Iowa, USA Oct 10, 2005 Draught. Clear amber color without much head. Malty nose and flavor with caramel undertones. Easy on the palate, but not very exciting. DarkElf (2681), La Jolla, California, USA Oct 1, 2005 (12 oz bottle: Hi-Time Wine Cellars in Costa Mesa, CA) This below average amber beer is somewhat flavorless, with a mildly toasty, slightly caramely, and minimally sweet maltiness, and almost no hops influence. There’s what seems to be a slight chocolate flavor in the finish, or at least I’m reminded of chocolate. It tastes a bit like cardboard too, but not a cardboard like what you might get from a significantly old imported lager, but just an inherent cardboard taste. Not bad tasting, per se, just not much there. The aroma is dry and toasty, and that’s about it. Light-medium body is a bit watery for the style. It’s pretty much a straight amber color, with a slight chill haze. The off-white head rises right to the top of my pint glass, but subsides to a thin, patchy layer within a few minutes. Below average, so not even worth having a sixer stuck in the fridge for guests, unless I didn’t want them to come back. Bockyhorsey (2487), Mesa, Arizona, USA Sep 24, 2005 Dectect corn malt for the aroma in this one. Amber body not much of a head and flat. Flavor was somewhat malty but also watered down. Easy to drink but swill beer is cheaper. Fish (439), Kure, Japan Sep 12, 2005 Really overwhelmingly smokey flavor. I will say that this is one of the more flavorful domestic lagers I’ve had in a while. Doesn’t really hold a candle to some of the other Abita beers though. Doppelganger (1353), Dry County, Arkansas, USA Sep 6, 2005 Copper orange with a modest layer of beige head. Cold sweat maltiness, light bready yeast. Underwhelming. Pleasant grainy character, mixed in with kind of a mildly sweet dill hoppiness. Not a standout, but nice in its own way. NachlamSie (1630), Tennessee, USA Aug 24, 2005 on draught. This is a translucent amber-colored lager. There’s a predictable malty smell. The initial flavor is sweet and malty and transitions nicely to a fine hoppy finish. But, why is this so watery?
