Bottle. Soft amber pour with a short, thick white head. Aroma is sweet malt, toasted notes, honey, grains and light hops. Some yeast notes as well. taste is sweet also with more honey, toasted malt, sweet malt, light grass, grains, hops and light yeast notes. Body is medium with a soft prickly carbonation. Ends with more sweet malts, honey, grains, light yeast and grassy hops. I was pleasantly surprised by this beer. Not a unique beer by any stretch but well made and very drinkable.

3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 njmoons (59) - New Jersey, USA - OCT 15, 2009
Picked up a bottle mostly out of curiosity. Had a great label (poor reason to pick a beer, I know), Abita makes some good beers, and the price was right.
Pours a light gold, with ample head that held up for a while.
Smelled good with distinct malt, apple, and hops well in balance.
Taste was OK. The beer was well made but too sweet on the front end for my tastes, the hops and other flavors take over pretty quickly and it finished with some hop bitterness and a crispness you would expect from a lager yeast.
Like I said it was well done, but with each sip the sweetness on the front end just messed it up for me.
Mouthfeel was pleasant a slightly thick as would be expected for a Doppel.
The drinkability for a 8%, was surprising smooth and easy. It would be easy to knock a few of these back.

Gold pour with tight white head and lace. Light straw with a hint of abv. Very sweet malt with a thick cloying sweet finish. A light hint of earthy hops as well. A tad foamy and thick. A big beer with alot of sweetness.
1.9 AROMA 1/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 Fratto (1814) - Arlington, Texas, USA - OCT 8, 2009
Bottle from the Whole Foods on Lamar. Yellowish orange pour with an impressive white head. The nice looking head quickly turns into something resembling the disgusting foam you see in a polluted creek bed. Pungent, nasty aroma that rushed out of the bottle as soon as I popped the cap. Weak honey, malt, and bread flavors are overpowered by an almost pepper taste. Finish is wet and sticky while the aftertaste lingers unpleasantly.
1.5 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 3/20 DominusCV (1) - New Orleans, Louisiana, USA - OCT 1, 2009 does not count
thin feel, medium body, flat. Honestly, I did not expect much from an Abita beer. Louisiana isn’t know for fantastic breweries, and this isn’t a great beer. It is rather good, and surprisingly so after smelling it. Nevertheless, aside from the cool name, it is not something I’ll run out to buy again.
1.6 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20 Rustyham (1303) - Nashville, Tennessee, USA - SEP 29, 2009
Flavor is nothing more than sugar. Can’t identify anything in here worth drinking. It is fizzy, tho. Bottle at 2nd Annual Treasure Coast Beerdest in Ft. Pierce, Fla.

Draft pint from Marigny Brasserie, down the block from d.b.a. New Orleans. Pours a somewhat hazy gold with a small white head. Aroma of hops, grain, straw, sugar, and corn. Flavor of the same, with some booze and honey. Medium body. Sweet and sticky. Unusual aroma and palate, this one takes a few drinks to get used to.
