Abita Andygator®, a creature of the swamp, is a unique, high-gravity brew made with pale malt, German lager yeast, and German Perle hops. Unlike other high-gravity brews, Andygator® is fermented to a dry finish with a slightly sweet flavor and subtle fruit aroma. Reaching an alcohol strength of 8% by volume, it is a Helles Doppelbock.

Pours a nice golden color with a nice white head that fades quickly. Aroma is a nice citrus hop. Taste is not as hoppy as it smells and has a finish that lingers with you but not in a bad way ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Ar: bread and yeast, some spice, a hint of something floral. Ap: clear pale amber, decent white head but dissipates quickly T: slightly sweet with some bitterness P: thin, light body with mild carbonation. Alcohol finish, doesn’t quite manage to hide the ABV O: Not sure the ’Helles Doppelbock’ thing is working here. Doesn’t seem to do a good job making the styles work together. Another disappointment from Abita for me.

In bottiglia. Colore giallo dorato, limpida, schiuma fine ed evanescente. Aroma di miele, cereale, erbaceo. al palato corpo abbastanza leggero, nota alcoolica evidente con sentori di miele, cereale e erbaceo finale

Growler from Big Hops. Pale amber, mostly clear with thin white head. Sweet, fruity malt aroma. Drinks sweet and smooth. Not bad.

Pours as a light golden with a cream colored light head. Aroma is malt driven with notes of banana and citrus. First taste begins with a bread/malt flavor laced with a fruity sweetness and finishes with a strong alcohol presence, notes of citrus, and a lingering sweetness. A decent brew but not fantastic. Serves well as a light, after dinner choice.

22FL OZ ($4.99) pretty cool beer, masks that 8% very well. a pretty beasty beer for low cost. its not a huge character beer but a strong delivery with a hidden hit. not all beers of a breed need to be the same.

Clear, amber-golden colored, small to moderate white head, nice lacing and lasting. Aroma is malty, some fruity shake, banana, a bit tart. Taste is medium sweet, some caramel and candy, quite a lot of fruits, banana, some herbal notes, grainy-bready finish, alcohol. Low bitterness. Medium bodied and carbonation. (Pivoteka, Zagreb)

I had this one in New Orleans. It’s crisp, light and sweet. I thought it was very undermalted for for a Doppelbock.

Was hesitant on getting this since all other Abita brews was a major let down but it was a single bottle on sale. Dark gold, small and fast dying head, malty aroma with hints of alcohol. Taste was caramel, sweet, slight alcohol, little bit of hop bitterness, overall not too bad. Not the best brew but the best one I have had from Abita. Didn’t have that muddy water taste so many of their brews have or maybe the extra malts and hops helped to mask it.
