1 pt. 6 oz. bottle: Pours bright golden yellow with a fluffy/foamy white head that leaves some lacing. The smell is of sweet grain, somewhat nutty with lemongrass. The taste is of sweet grainy, slightly nutty with a hint of yellow apples, honey, and spices. It has a thickish, syrupy medium body. Medium to high carbonation saves this brew from sickly sweetness. I appreciate experimentation with imperial styles, but this one just doesn’t work that well for me. I don’t think the beer is poorly conceived. But I don’t think that it really works as a style. Nice try but just not my cup of tea.

Bottle from Whole Foods. Aroma is weak. Appearance is apple juice. Palate is full and thick. Taste is a strong light malty flavor with lingering aftertaste. A little better than Hurricane High Gravity or Natty Daddy. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle - Pours a clear yellow with a typical creamy, white head. Aromas of caramel and sweet malts. Creamy mouth feel with notes of bread and pepper. Not sure what to make of this, but not for me.

Tap at Lazy Dog Macon. Pours transparent orange with white head. Aroa of malts. Tastes of malt, caramel and toffee. Medium-bodied. Not that great.

12 oz bottle from Tipsy’s. Orange-amber and clear appearance with a lacy white head. Malty aroma and flavor with notes of caramel and toffee. Medium to full body with a thick mouth feel and a smooth and creamy finish. OK.

"This is not really representative of how much i like the style. This example is just a little overly sweet and grainy, without that distinct liquid bread aspect I so love. Below average for the style. Still ok overall."

From a 650ml bottle on 17/8/2014 (shared by Butz with thanks). Pours a clear olden with a medium head. The aroma features some bready malt and honeyish notes. In the mouth, it’s quite sweet with more honey and some bready malt, finishing with a decent bitter kick and just a hint of alcohol. That said, it’s pretty easy drinking for 8%. Quite good.

Andygator is nice. This Helles Doppelbock is a nice amber color with no head. Has a smooth full mouth feel with a good balance and nice non bitter finish. Like it but watch out like the bottle says sip don't gulp, it has a way of sneaking up
