COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Abita Bock is brewed with Perle hops and British pale and caramel malts. Our Bock is similar to a German Maibock in its high malt content, full body and slightly higher alcohol content. Available January-March.

UPDATED: MAR 17, 2009 THIS BEER IS REFRESHING and different for a bock. of course i know abita to use their own take on most brew styles and this is an example. happily this is a pretty good beer it is moderately tasty, slicky sweet, substantive enough with malt and has an almost moderate hops and citrus fruit flavor that is enjoyable. there is a cold, clean and clear water mouthfeel and taste to their beers that i have noticed and find myself looking for now, because it is intruiging chiefly since the flavor and alcohol are not weak.

Thanks turdferguson for sharing. Pours a translucent light copper with a one finger head. The nose is sweet and bready, nice malt profile, caramel, grassy hops come through, nice phenolic sharpness. The flavor is mildly leafy up front, some hop bitterness, malty, sweet, bready. Palate is softly carbonated with a mild bitterness. Very drinkable.

Very clear amber with a white head. Spicy yeasty aroma with sulfer/ burnt rubber. Light/ medium body with a frothy mouthfeel. Decent grainy malt, lightly sweet caramel flavor. Not too bad.

12 oz. bottle labeled as Mardi Gras Bock. Pale copper color with the smallest of white heads. I had a little trouble picking up the nose on this one. What I could find included malt and some banana notes. Light on the tongue with decent carbonation. Definite banana and bread notes on the palate. Some malt, fruit, and grain come through as well. A very mild hop bitterness at the end. It finished very clean but just a little quite for my tastes. Not bad, but there are better versions of this style.

Amber red color. Small head, but lasts decently long. Sweet smelling yeast aroma. Caramel tasting malts and nice carbonation. Watery mouth feel. Overall just kinda boring.

12 ounce bottle from Wine Warehouse in Charlottesville, VA. Pours a clear reddish color with a 2-finger head. Decent head retention and fair lacing. Aroma is bready and toasty malts with some syrupy fruit notes. Taste is very grainy toasted malts with a touch of caramel and stone fruits. Medium bodied. Bitter hop finish.

Aroma is light, cereal grains, malts, bread. Light brown in color, closer to the pale side. Malty, grainy flavor, a little sour. Meium mouthfeel. Finish was sour, unremarkable. Not great, especially for this style.
