1.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 6/20 StewardofGondor (1934) - Washington Heights - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA - JUN 28, 2005
Transparent gold in color with a thin, bubbly white head. Aroma is of a dime-a-dozen brewers yeast, corn husks, caramel malts and lemon biscotti. Taste doesn’t spur any complexity, in fact, it looses points. Newly harvested corn on the cob and cornmeal, and grainy with an irking sweetness. Bah.

Bright yellow with a thin white head. Skunky, lightstruck nose. Grainy, gritty and otherwise tasteless. Nothing bock about this one. Another thumbs down for abita.
1.2 AROMA 1/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 2/20 joet (1851) - Fulton, California, USA - FEB 13, 2002
Damn great appearance, hazy but ’clear’ deep golden, thick white foam. Disgusting ’Abita’ vegetable crap aroma. Sweet caramel malt flavors, crisp, light medium body. Slightly wet. Clean, light finish with more of the Abita stench.

One of the best southern made bocks that I have ever tasted. Very well balanced and a great amount of appropriate maltiness.
2.8 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 Elwood (1834) - Between a rock and a hard place, Virginia, USA - MAR 6, 2009
12 oz. bottle labeled as Mardi Gras Bock. Pale copper color with the smallest of white heads. I had a little trouble picking up the nose on this one. What I could find included malt and some banana notes. Light on the tongue with decent carbonation. Definite banana and bread notes on the palate. Some malt, fruit, and grain come through as well. A very mild hop bitterness at the end. It finished very clean but just a little quite for my tastes. Not bad, but there are better versions of this style.
2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 kiefdog (1826) - Tampa, Florida, USA - FEB 22, 2009
12oz bottle from package store in New Orleans. Pours a generally clear copper color with a white foamy head that settles slowly and laces the glass. Aroma is sweet and malty with notes of grass, hay, yeast, sour overripe fruit, some hints of honey and hay. Flavor is sweet and somewhat malty with notes of grain, yeast, bread, some fruit and nut flavors. Generally light body with sour and unpleasant finish.
2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 Fratto (1814) - Arlington, Texas, USA - FEB 18, 2011
Bottle from Cavie. Orange pour with a small white head. Aroma is light and caramel and malty. Herbal, kinda buttery, caramel, and a dry hop finish.

Aroma is light, cereal grains, malts, bread. Light brown in color, closer to the pale side. Malty, grainy flavor, a little sour. Meium mouthfeel. Finish was sour, unremarkable. Not great, especially for this style.
