COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Abita Bock is brewed with Perle hops and British pale and caramel malts. Our Bock is similar to a German Maibock in its high malt content, full body and slightly higher alcohol content. Available January-March.

A clear lager, light amber colored bock, with a heavy half head of white foam. The beer smells like farm grain and little bit of skunky hops. It tastes like spice malt and hay. Fizzy texture. A finish thats malty enough to make me want to puke.

With aggressive pouring got a smallish off white head and a little lace. Color is a hazy medium amber. Aroma is malt caramel fruit. Flavor is two dimensional: malt caramel with carbonic acid a hint of hop and fruit. Body is ok but carbonation is way over done- seems forced. Finish is like flavor. Came all the way down here thinking I could get some special Abitas that I can’t get at home. I’m askin ya, is this any way to answer a reasonable question? Can’t finish this beer.

(bottle 6/6/11). Clear dark gold color. Medium off white head. Moderate bread/toast aroma and flavor. Avg duration. Smooth finish. Slick texture. Moderate carbonation. Fair lacing.

Clear orange pour with a soapy head that starts off big, but settles down to a thin layer. Sweet aroma. A little bit of the hay mentioned by some other raters. I was expecting something with a bit more full bodied. This was a bit watery. It doesn’t taste bad, but its not good either. This would be a good replacement for those who just want a bunch of beers they can slam back. Not filling at all, light bodied and refreshing.

UPDATED: MAR 17, 2009 THIS BEER IS REFRESHING and different for a bock. of course i know abita to use their own take on most brew styles and this is an example. happily this is a pretty good beer it is moderately tasty, slicky sweet, substantive enough with malt and has an almost moderate hops and citrus fruit flavor that is enjoyable. there is a cold, clean and clear water mouthfeel and taste to their beers that i have noticed and find myself looking for now, because it is intruiging chiefly since the flavor and alcohol are not weak.

From a twist cap stubby brown bottle with a notched best before date along the left side of back label. Poured a hazy copper hued orange with a foamy off-white head that settled into a thin lacing. Aromas of faint grape fruity esters and bready malts. Moderate carbonation and a softly crisp, smooth medium bodied mouthfeel. Very malty tasting, toasted caramel and bready malts with a touch of sugariness, fruity esters, a light, soft spicy hop bitterness, a slight warming alcohol presence towards the end and a dryish sweet malty finish, a nice smooth drinkability. A decent bock, mildly tasty and quite quaffable.

Bottle (Mardi Gras Bock). Poured orange with a creamy off-white head. Subdue aroma of toasted malts. Empty flavor. Light body and tingly carbonation.
