(Best by 06/07/08) Odd tasting lager that is sweet and acrid, but not to the point of being vinegar-like. The nose is full of tart cherries and apple skin. Maibock? Not! This taste like a weird Lambic Lager hybrid that has gone awry.

Nothing really remarkable, just pleasant memories. It was a sure sign of spring, Carnival and crawfish. Classic bock flavors and colors - malt, alcohol, some hops, glowing red color.

Pours a thick amber, without much of a head. Streams of carbonation from the sides of the glass. Heavy malt aroma, with perhaps a bit of hops cutting through. Fairly heavy, with a sweet, almost cloying quality. Long, lingering finish. Not much else. Shame Abita doesn’t get more experimental with its beers. With such a long track record, they should look into marketing stouts, IPAs, and imperials.
2.7 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Block (864) - West Lafayette, Indiana, USA - FEB 27, 2011
I felt like the malts weren’t supported in this beer. One dimensional with a caramel malt flavor throughout. Not too bad and very easy to drink but doesn’t have the depth of many other similar bocks.

On tap at Mahars. Pours a beautiful straw with a thick foamy head. Flavor is clean and bitter with a disappearing finish that’s very nice.

Sampled from a bottle at a tasting. Poured a darkish amber. Aroma was sweet, grain, some malt. Flavor was a drop off: too much skunky cereal, too little crisp malt character. I like bocks, but this was not to my liking.

Aroma is almost non-existent. Pours a lightish cloudy caramel color. Can definitely taste the hops and some fruit that I can’t put my finger on. Whatever it is, I don’t care for it. Glad this was a freebie. I’ve drank half; don’t think I can get the other half down.

Straight forward malty aroma with a touch of toasty bread. Crystal clear copper color. Yeasty toasty bread flavor with a nice nutty aftertaste. Overall, smooth and easy drinking. Nice session brew...

On draught at Poppy’s on the Riverwalk in New Orleans. Pours a clear copper color with a fine white head and continuous bubbles. Slight malty aroma. Medium body with thin, somewhat hoppy finish. Not expected from a bock. Slight caramel flavor but no rich maltiness. Disappointing.

UPDATED: JAN 24, 2011 A clear golden pour with frothy white head. A nice malty aroma with some caramel notes. The taste is smooth with medium sweetness. The full body has lively carbonation and a velvety finish. This is a very nice bock.
