COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Abita Bock is brewed with Perle hops and British pale and caramel malts. Our Bock is similar to a German Maibock in its high malt content, full body and slightly higher alcohol content. Available January-March.

Thanks to Walt for this one. Bright yellow with a white head. Had a lemony pinesol aroma. Some hints to citrus flavor try to escape into my mouth, but do not do a good job. Decent malt character. The finish has the most flavor of the whole thing. Pretty light beer.

UPDATED: JUN 27, 2006 This is awfully light, golden in color, even for a Maibock, although it’s practically headless like one. Sweet malt aroma with a hint of grassiness. It seems to be a bit watery in the mouth. The sweet maltiness is pretty subdued for a bock. Very clean finish.

Mardi Gras Bock. Very bland hops with a slight hint at some form of malt (I can’t say caramel because I can barely taste it); biscuit, grassy aroma; light body with much left to be desired on the palate and in the aftertaste; hazy copper appearance. Maybe it’s because Carnival has just wrapped up down here, but I couldn’t find myself getting excited about this brew. Nothing special about it, although I will say that the taste actually starts to grow on you ever so slightly with each sip.

Pours amber with a short lived offwhite head. Smell is malty with a slightly tart, fruity, doughy, biscuity zing to it, like heller bocks tend to have, to me anyway. Taste is fairly thin with some of the same almost doughy, sticky fruit flavors, but very lightly so. Fairly watery and slightly sweet. This is a pretty unremarkable beer, but drinkable.

Pours a foamy off-white head on a clear golden body. Quite sharp and somewhat harsh in the hayish and flowery aroma. Thin fruity and strawish flavor, notes of citrus and hops. Very uninteresting.

As "Mardi Gras Bock". Pretty unimaginative to relabel the same beer. It is decent, but tastes nothing like a bock. No diacetyl at least.

Pours light orange with a small fine head. Aromas of sweetness and old/rotten grain. Taste same as the aroma with a funky aftertaste. Not good, even for a heller bock.

(12oz bottle thanks to Dixonian) golden-orange pour with creamy fine tan bubbles. Nose of florals, stinky, cereal grain. Taste of sugar, grain, old, rotten. Abita beer is never my favorite. Linger is pretty gross.

Pour is a nice orange with a white head. Aroma is faint hops and malts. Flavor is almost to faint to even get a good rating. Theres malts in there but they do not even stand out. The beer looks great but is blah after that.

Aroma is almost non-existent. Pours a lightish cloudy caramel color. Can definitely taste the hops and some fruit that I can’t put my finger on. Whatever it is, I don’t care for it. Glad this was a freebie. I’ve drank half; don’t think I can get the other half down.
