Sampled at a 2005 Christmas and Winter beer tasting at Delilah’s, Chicago, IL. 2005 vintage. Clear amber ale having small diminishing head. No discernable aroma or carbonation. Medium bodied that starts with slight spice and light sweet malt flavor. Finishes dry with no discernable aftertaste. Thin textured and watery in flavor, this is a bland drinkable beer.

Beige head on an amber colored body. Rich caremel aroma with hints of honey and citrus. Taste is a dissapointment, very dry, and none of the nice things i found in the aroma. Mouthfeel is bit thin, and co2 is medium. Boring.

12oz bottle - Pours copper with a nice foamy white head that stays pretty well and laces down the glass. Aroma is honey, caramel malts, and some grapefruit hops. Flavor is quite malty at first. Caramel, and a touch of honey. Then the hops from the aroma finish it off with some bitterness. Fairly smooth and drinkable on the palate. I thought this one of the better brews I’ve had from this brewer! Not bad..

Bottled. Clear amber with a foamy head. Not much aroma...some malt. Nothing going on to differentiate this "spice" beer from any other lager on the market. Too many better X-mas ales to waste time with this one. Next.

Clear red, fluffy tan head. Earthy, honey malt aroma with some cardboard. Nutty, earthy caramel flavor with some spicy hops in the finish. Bitterness in a bit rough. Spritzy carbonation.

Way too thin, timid and watery. No dicernable Christmas spicing or robustness. I’m a little surprised by the ABV, too, because it just seemed so watered-down!

Beer of the Month Club Offering. <P> Lightly hopped aroma with even lighter spice notes. Rich copper in color with a firm thumb thick white head. Not much here flavor wise. Crisp hop bite I associate with premium lagers and almost no spice notes. Some subdued caramel malt, but overall it just doesn’t taste like very much of anything.

I’m not sure what Abita was trying to accomplish here, but they fell short of whatever it was. It’s a thin malty brew with the usual Christmas ale spices. The finish was water with a drop of acid in it. Not worth coming back to.

Bottle: Clean amber hue with a small fizzy head and minmal lace. The aroma has notes of pepper, clove, piney and grassy hops, grainy and caramel malts and bit of a veggie tone. The taste starts spicy and grassy with a slight malt background. Some light lingering bittering but did not provide much depth of palate. The feel was thin and watery, some astrengent qualities. Very sub-par offering and wished for more.

A beautiful beer in the glass. Its not really fair to rate this brew though because they change the recipe every year. Very malty with a slight bite and a little spice. A great beer to enjoy by the fire!
