Christmas 2012. Dark brown/copper color. Medium tan head. Fairly clear. Floral hop aroma. Medium body with high carbonation. Hop bitterness at the start of the flavor finishing with caramel malt. ---Rated via iPhone

2014 recipe. 6 oz pour from refrigerated bottled into a sniffer glass. Pours hazy, nearly opaque with a finger white head that dissipated fairly quickly and left lots of lacing. Nose is spices, earth, and malt. Mouthfeel is moderate, though a bit watery. Tastes like a Christmas tree (and not in a bad way!). Lots of pine and spruce, plus some baking spices. Otherwise a mediocre brown ale. Nothing incredible, but not bad.

2014 recipe: The brew pours a copper color with a thick, pillowy head. The carbonation is mild and heads more than I expected. The flavor is heavy with malt, most notably a dark chocolate tone, but also bitter. The overall impression is of a modest Russian Imperial, and it is very good.

Dark amber; hips dominates the nose with citrus and pine; hoppy oily bitter finish; tastes like an American pale ale.

12 oz bottle pours an amber color with a small white head. Aromas of caramel, light citrus, sweet malt. Light bodies, a little thin, but worth the try. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12oz bottle. Poured a light amber color with a medium sized foamy off-white head. Aroma was light sweet malts, some caramel sweetness. Earthy hops. Flavor was mostly sweet, stale caramel with some light bland toffee.

12 oz. bottle at home. Pours a deep amber color with a medium sized off white head. The aroma and flavor have toasted bread, caramel, cinnamon and other spices, cookies, hints of dark dried fruit, dry, a bit thin.

12 oz bottle in NOLA. Pours amber with long lasting, white head. Aroma is of caramel and bready malt, piney hops, oranges and apricots. Body is medium and crisp. Caramel malt, herbal, piney hops and some ripe fruit fill the mouth. Finish is long, herbal. I think it is the better brew from Abita.

Cask at Ashley’s. Pours a near clear deep amber with a tan head that lasts throughout the beer. Aroma is full of Christmas spice with a bit of sweet grains and spruce. Flavor is similarly full of spice with a sweet grain backbone.
