4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
LOTS of flavors and aromas going on here.
While I enjoy it when I have it, I find that its much better in small quantities as it tends to kill off most of the ability to taste anything else after a while.
I usually keep it around for a good hearty meal or to complement a milder beer.

2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Transfer from BA -
Poured from bottle into Sam Adams sensory glass
Appearance - Brownish with a bit of red hue. A off color white head formed upon pouring, which gave way quickly with no lacing.
Smell - Sweet smells of caramel and brown sugar up front. These are followed by nutmeg and possibly the slightest bit of cinnamon.
Taste - Not as sweet as would have expected. Much more burnt tasting with a bit of spiciness of nutmeg. There are slight sweet notes of brown sugar later on, but they pale in what would be expected from the smell.
Mouthfeel - Rather average. A little watery with a fair amount of carbonation.
Overall - Nothing to special. If looking for a winter warmer this is not the brew.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
12 ounce bottle into pint glass, best before 3/14/2014. Pours lightly hazy/cloudy brown copper color with a 2 finger dense light khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with some light streaming carbonation. Aromas of caramel, toast, biscuit, brown sugar, light chocolate, grapefruit, orange zest, floral, grass, light pine, light nuttiness, and floral/toasted earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/bready malt and citrus hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of caramel, toast, biscuit, brown sugar, light chocolate, grapefruit, orange zest, citrus peel, floral, grass, light pine, light nuttiness, and floral/toasted earthiness. Fair amount of pine/grassy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, toast, biscuit, brown sugar, light chocolate, grapefruit, orange zest, citrus peel, floral, grass, light pine, and floral/toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Nice robustness and complexity of dark/bready malt and citrus hop flavors; with a nice malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth, crisp, and moderately bready mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a nice hoppy brown ale. Good balance and complexity of dark/bready malt and citrus hop flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Reviewed from notes: pours a nice darker red amber color with off-white head. Some pine, spice, and malt on the nose; follows onto the palate. Finishes with a cedar/oak wood note. Interesting.

3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
12 oz bottle into a tulip glass. Pours a clear dark amber with a massive khaki head that slowly fades and leaves good lacing. Nose is hops and pine. Taste is meh. Starts out OK, but fades to a bitter hoppy, piney finish. Nothing special.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle. Pours a clear and rather dark brown color with moderate bubbly light tan head on it. Nose has some pine to me, and a little bit of sour fruit to make it just a bit Christmasy. Taste ends up being a tad sweet up front, but then blends into a very earthy finish. For Christmas, I like this, as it’s not overly spiced, like too many winters are.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
The aroma is hoppy with a hint of spice. The flavor matches the aroma. It’s mildly hoppy, hoppier than I care for in a Christmas Ale but not nearly as hoppy as Revolution Fistmas or Rogue Santa’s Private Reserve Ale. There is a strong malt flavor, as you’d expect for the dark brown color. There’s something else here, too. I can’t tell if it’s ginger or nutmeg, or maybe both. It’s subtle. The “holiday” flavor I look for in a Christmas Ale just isn’t here. It’s not a bad beer, but there are so many other Christmas beers I like better (like Hoppin’ Frog Frosted Frog, Thirsty Dogs 12 Dogs of Christmas, Ommegang Adoration, or Corsendonk).

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle. Hazy red with a creamy coloured top. Smella both of hops and winter spices such as clove and cinnamon, tastes spicy and bitter. Full body, long and spicy finish.
