3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
THOUGHTS: Nothing really special and not at all really Christmasy. Just a well-made, nicely-balanced amber ale. Fairly British.
TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a clear, dark amber that was nearly brown in the glass with a large to huge, beige head that diminished very slowly and left good lacing. The aroma had moderate toasted and nutty malts; light caramel; moderate resinous and earthy hops; and light floral and citrus hops. The initial flavor was lightly sweet and bitter; while the finish was slightly sweet, moderately bitter and lightly acidic with an average to long duration. There was caramel, citrus hops, toasted and nutty malts, earthy and resinous hops and burnt malt. The light to medium body was a little watery with soft carbonation and an ever so slightly metallic if anything finish.

0.9 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 2/20
Pours a very dark cloudy brown with a very thick and frothy head when poured. It has a strong spruce aroma to it. The taste is a very strong hop/spruce flavor and is a bit overpowering. Leaves the tongue dry with an nasty aftertaste. Worst beer Iíve added on here so far and donít recommend it to anyone.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
2014 recipe. 6 oz pour from refrigerated bottled into a sniffer glass. Pours hazy, nearly opaque with a finger white head that dissipated fairly quickly and left lots of lacing. Nose is spices, earth, and malt. Mouthfeel is moderate, though a bit watery. Tastes like a Christmas tree (and not in a bad way!). Lots of pine and spruce, plus some baking spices. Otherwise a mediocre brown ale. Nothing incredible, but not bad.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
2014 recipe: The brew pours a copper color with a thick, pillowy head. The carbonation is mild and heads more than I expected. The flavor is heavy with malt, most notably a dark chocolate tone, but also bitter. The overall impression is of a modest Russian Imperial, and it is very good.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Dark amber; hips dominates the nose with citrus and pine; hoppy oily bitter finish; tastes like an American pale ale.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
12 oz bottle in NOLA. Pours amber with long lasting, white head. Aroma is of caramel and bready malt, piney hops, oranges and apricots. Body is medium and crisp. Caramel malt, herbal, piney hops and some ripe fruit fill the mouth. Finish is long, herbal. I think it is the better brew from Abita.
