COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The newest Abita brew takes its name and inspiration from the Mardi Gras Indians of New Orleans. Looking for Indians on Mardi Gras Day is a tradition for many New Orleans families. A cultural phenomenon familiar to residents of the Crescent City, the Mardi Gras Indians are not well known to outsiders and Abita is proud to help share their story with the world.

Pours a clear amber color. Moderate white head with good retention and lacing. Aroma is sweet caramel and grapefruit hops. Flavor is oddly tropcial, with notes of coconut, passion fruit and grapefruit. Notable lack of hoppiness for a supposed IPA. Medium, crisp mouthfeel. Not what I would consider a textbook IPA, but a refreshing drink that gets points for originality.

An IPA relative to the Abita amber. The ubiquitous amber is easy drinking and mild and found all over the place from what I’ve seen on my trips to LA. The IPA is a nod towards increased hop levels while staying true to the easy drinking, less assertive style of the amber and staying clear of TurboDog’s turf. Not bad at all, just nothing like what one might expect these days from most american made IPAs.

Pours a golden orange with a thin, white head. It has an aroma of herby, spicy hops with a hint of citrus. The taste is of predominately herby, spicy hops with some grapefruit notes in the background. It also has some fusel notes present, though not extremely overpowering. This isn’t the best IPA by any means, but it is definitely one of Abita’s better beers.

Pours amber with a reich beige head and a pine aroma. There is a decent caramel malt flavor with some grassy bitterness.

Transparent copper color. Vaguely fruity aroma with a touch of grainy malt. There is definitely a hop presence, especially towards the back of the palate. This beer does not seem as hoppy as most other IPAs, however.

12 oz bottle pour to shaker. nice golden amber color with a rocky off-white head. Quite a bit of lacing on this one. Not much in the way of aroma but did catch some citrus and resin tones. Has an almost creamy mouthfeel that was interesting for an IPA. A decent malty backbone with resiny hops . Nice little bitter punch at the end. Is a decent brew but I found it very, very balanced as far as an IPA. Still dominated by the hops but not to the extent I usually experience from this style of beer. Nice.

Just lacked any depth, soul, or ooooomph... As good as any house IPA, but not anything more.

Amber pour with an off-white head. Aroma of citrus hops that leaves a nice taste in your mouth that tended to stick around. Lacing shows each sip taken. I like this beer. Good price.

12 oz bottle. Pours a nice orange copper with a thick tan head. Floral, citrus hop aroma with hints of caramel. Medium thick, citrus bitter hop taste with a nice malt balance. Decent IPA.
