COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The newest Abita brew takes its name and inspiration from the Mardi Gras Indians of New Orleans. Looking for Indians on Mardi Gras Day is a tradition for many New Orleans families. A cultural phenomenon familiar to residents of the Crescent City, the Mardi Gras Indians are not well known to outsiders and Abita is proud to help share their story with the world.

One of my faves. First of all, Abita Springs brews there beer with artesian water from Abita Springs, Louisiana so it tastes fresh(the same effect as brewing coffee with spring water or purified water over tap or well water. It’s going to taste that much better). 2nd of all, they use pale, red, AND caramel malts for a distinct flavor. It tends to be more red and caramel in my opinion. It’s also pretty strong at 6.5 %. That means if you put down 3 of these on an empty stomach, you’re going to need a plate of food to keep up for a good night of drinking. Goes great with spicey food like a southwestern burger, Mexican food(yuck), or Thai. Enjoy

Backlog rating 12-10-2008. (Bottle) The appearance is a small ivory head with poor retention, mostly transparent body/slightly hazy body, visible carbonation, fair amount of lacing, and a light orange hue. The aroma is malt, caramel, citrus and pine hops and hint of toffee. The flavor copies the aroma. The palate is tingly and this is a medium bodied beer. Overall, this is a quaffable beer and worth a try.

Bottle from ldhughes3 many thanks. Pours amber hue capped by a cream colored head that stays for the duration of the glass, leaves a thick lacing coverage. Nose of cereal malt, and a heavy flowers. Taste has solid bitterness with a mix of more flowers. The flowers seem a tad bizarre and not completly in tune with the rest of the offering. Light to medium body.

Appearance: very nice clear amber color, thick creamy beige head that really lasts, laces nicely, one of the best looking heads I’ve experienced Aroma: hoppy, grassy, kind of faint smell Taste: hoppy and grassy right up front and all the way to the end, not overly bitter Palate: not too much c02 burn, kind of frothy and leaves the mouth wet, light hop aftertaste Overall: I like this ipa because its hoppy but not overly bitter, a good ipa choice ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Can’t believe I hadn’t rated this one yet. Clear reddish orange pour with a small white head. Slight citrus hop, caramel malt, but a little cardboard in here too. Finishes a touch astringent, even though it’s not really that hoppy.

Can. Pours a nice burnt orange with a one-finger light tan head that lingers. Good lacing. Aggressively hopped, but not overpowering. Hints of citrus and caramel. Unfortunately, the spicy finish compromises some otherwise solid work.

Aroma is amazing, fruity, floral, and bright fresh soft grapes, probably the hop, sauvin. Appearance is copper-reddish-gold with decent head that falls leaving nice thin legs. Taste is first, floral grape hop, then washes over with awesome caramel hints of malts and finishes with the hop spice but everything is super balanced works great. Palate is also well executed, balanced and just the right amount of malt and hop and finishes clean and begs for another drink. Overall I really like this one, i could drink a bunch of them since they dont saturate and overpower the tongue. Session IPA

Pours a copper-gold with mid-sized head. Aroma of hops, dominated by malt. Flavor is also overtaken by the malt, with floral, citrus hop undertones. A rather understated IPA, more in the English style than the American. Not bad.
