COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The newest Abita brew takes its name and inspiration from the Mardi Gras Indians of New Orleans. Looking for Indians on Mardi Gras Day is a tradition for many New Orleans families. A cultural phenomenon familiar to residents of the Crescent City, the Mardi Gras Indians are not well known to outsiders and Abita is proud to help share their story with the world.

12oz Stubby $6.49 6-Pack Binny’s Plainfield I haven’t drank anything from Abita in a long long time. Abita’s Jockamo IPA enters the glass copper with a very faint haziness. Moderate carbonation rises up the sides of the glass to the two finger fluffy white head. The head eventually falls to a finger while leaving some chunky lines on it’s way down. There’s some pale malts in there but they’re rather subtle. The hop profile in this IPA smells more of candied fruit than the usual bitterness. Strong candied orange and even some lemon drops. I like the candy like hop presence, it’s something a little different. Flavor is spot on with the aroma. Those pale malts are swimming around in the background but the hops are most pronounced with the candied orange and lemon drops. This "candied" sensation I’m picking up is like crystalized sugar wthout being too sweet or sticky. As this beer enters the mouth it feels like it could be slightly viscous but moves fast enough to stay away from being too sticky. Slightly coating with a mild hop bitterness. Jockamo goes down easy enough for a mini session. Even though the abv is fairly high for an IPA the alcohol is not at all noticeable. I haven’t drank a beer from Abita in a few years. This was a good beer to sample after such a long hiatus. Not in the top of any IPA list but enjoyable and a great deal. 12/15/07

Bottle. Pours muddy orange-ish brown, thin head, good lacing. Aroma of toffee and straightforward hops. Good balance of malt and hops.

expectations were low here because I don’t care for abita beers. However, this beer slightly exceeded those expectations. Not very balanced as hop citrus flavor dominates. The use of cascades here borders on cleanser taste, but still, not as bad as I thought this was going to be.

12oz bottle out of the cooler @ Papago. Bland sweet malt citrus aroma. Copper body with off white head. Some citrus bitter hop on the finish but nothing here that made me say good stuff. May have to rerate this one, had it after a sour beer.

One of the better Abitas out there right now, and I was excited to read that this will be a new flagship ale. Perfectly balanced malt flavor with a hint of citrus and toffee. Been stocking up on bottles.

Bottle; compared to others by Abita, I had at least some expectations for this one. Poured a copper-orange with small to medium off white head. Aroma was of citrus, toffee and flowers. Flavor was definitely dominated by malt, but not an overly great malt flavor. Malt was caramel and toffee. The hops in the finish had little, if any, bite. Hops were mostly on the floral side. Wasn’t as hopped as most would like for the style. That being said, it was not terrible by any means, just not something to get overly excited about. Probably the best that I have had from Abita...but that is not saying too much.

Good IPA! Got it because of the design on the bottle, and because I was in mood for a new IPA. Nice flavor, and a very sweet smell to this beer.

Bottle from party Town. Poured clear copper color with a medium frothy white head that was mostly lasting with fair lacing. Moderate sweet citrus hoppy aroma. Medium body with soft carbonation. Medium citrus bittersweet flavor and a medium smooth bitter finish of moderate duration. Solid drinkable beer.

Mostly malty ale with a touch of hoppy spice. Lacking in hops for an IPA, more like a higher gravity Pale Ale. Enjoyable, but not rememberable.

Pours an amber color with a thin, off-white head. Aroma is of floral and citrus hops, and caramel malts. Flavor is mostly caramel and sweet malts with very little hop charecter for an IPA. Slight bitterness on the finish of this one but I was highly dissapointed with this one.
