The newest Abita brew takes its name and inspiration from the Mardi Gras Indians of New Orleans. Looking for Indians on Mardi Gras Day is a tradition for many New Orleans families. A cultural phenomenon familiar to residents of the Crescent City, the Mardi Gras Indians are not well known to outsiders and Abita is proud to help share their story with the world.

The beer poured a nice amber red with two fingers of white head. However, this wasnt much of an IPA. It didnt really have much hop bite to it. It was more like an Amber Ale.

Bottiglia 35 cl. Bel colore color ambra, schiuma fine e persistente.

From a bottle. Pretty much what you would expect, well made IPA with a huge hop punch and resin finish. Good stuff.

Aroma: fruity and slightly hoppy; Appearance: dark amber with pillow head that dissipates fairly quickly; nice lacing; Taste: faintly piney and grapefruity; almost wouldnít know itís an IPA unless you told me; Palate: medium body with medium bitter finish; Overall: smooth, drinkable and completely unremarkable; would not buy again unless deeply discounted.

Onestamente terribile. Una delle peggiori ipa che abbia mai assaggiato. Totale assenza di luppolo

Bottle. Rich yellow with small off-white foamy head, grassy hops aroma, medium carbonation, medium bitter hoppy taste with a hint of mango flavor, medium bitter finish. Quite mediocre as an IPA.

Quite as most Abita beers, water and incipient. But it is interesting to have on a barbecue gathering just to enjoy the time.

Apparently "Jockamo" was the original title for "Iko Iko", a New Orleans ear-worm so insidiously awful that I would rather stab myself in the anvil, stirrup and cochlea than endure it again. Iím more positive on the beer. Itís not big enough to meet the beer geekís passion for hop bombs, but itís a decent, flavoursome IPA for those with more modest expectations. Clear bronze with a thick head showing fair retention and some lace. Big fruity aroma of white peach, mango, squeeze of lemon. Soft carbonation. Swirl of summer fruits on the tongue. Pity that a slight metallic taint to the finish clashes with the soft fruits and detracts from the overall effect. Still, I couldnít find much to dislike here apart from the fact I now have "Iko Iko" on a loop in my head. Knife please. (355ml bottle from Carrington Cellars, Katoomba)
