2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 after4ever (5294) - Brier, Washington, USA - MAY 23, 2008
12-oz. Thanks, Skoi! Not too much happening here, really. Mild nose of light earthy pine and some sweaty butter. Lightish, somewhat fizzy body with more of the pine, earth, and butteriness. Not much finish. In addition to the diacetyl issue, there’s a very definitely timid recipe happening here. Not much of a beer overall.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Cornfield (5276) - Oak Forest, Illinois, USA - JAN 4, 2008
I only picked up a single 12 oz. bottle, but this one may actually merit a return visit despite my mediocre rating. (I began by not expecting too much from Abita.) It pours a pale, clear amber body with a respectable head. Unfortunately, that doesn’t last a long time. The aroma has a soft caramel sweetness heavily covered by hoppy notes of zest of lemon and grapefruit. The flavor begins quietly with sweet, sugary malt. Then the hops take over, not overtly aggressive, but sturdy enough to impress me with their flavorful bitterness. A touch of resinous pine and some floral bitterness are added to the aforementioned hop sensations. Nice moderate, prolonged bitter finish.

(Draught at Akkurat, Stockholm, 9 Aug 2011) Amber colour with frothy, beige head. Fruity, hoppy nose with citrus, apricots, crystal malt and slightly earthy hops. Malty, fruity taste with notes of orange peel, dried apricots, toast and earthy hops. Medium body, with a certain sweetness. Nice and tasty.

This IPA pours a medium orange gold color from a 12oz bottle. Small sized white foamy head. The aroma is citrusy and floral. A medium to light bodied IPA. The malts are caramel and fruity. The hops are citrusy and floral. Nice carbonation. Kind of a milder, less bitter IPA, a very muted hop profile and the flavors are kind of mild. Nicely balanced. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 DuffMan (5202) - the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, CANADA - NOV 28, 2007
wow, I ddn’t realize this was so new when I tried it on my recent trip to New Orleans! Pours a deep red-orange with an orange-tinted creamy head. Powerful resinous pine hop aroma, citrus oil, and carrot tops. Malty, even a little earthy, but this takes a back seat to a very bold resinous hop finish. This beer, and the Abita Select Saison, are by far the very best of the Abita lineup.

Bottle. Aroma is balanced and has some fruity tropical mango hop and toasty malt. The body has a lot of chewiness. There are barely any hops in the flavors. Toasty malts is all. And some diacetyl. It’s ok for what it is which is just an American chewy pale ale.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 badlizard (5162) - Berkeley, California, USA - JUN 28, 2009
Tasted at the San Diego International Beer Festival. Light orange with a grassy hoppy aroma and taste. Nothing special.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 blankboy (5153) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - FEB 19, 2008
Bottle. Pours a clear orange-copper with a large foamy off-white head. Mild aroma of caramel malt, hops and traces of honey and fruit. Flavour’s also mild and maybe a tad watery -- It starts with caramel malt and light fruit followed by citrus & resiny hops and has a decent bitter finish. Surprisingly, a little sweet too. Medium bodied. It didn’t impress me but it’s O.K., I’d drink it again.
