2.3 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 Onslow (706) - Kalamazoo, USA - FEB 5, 2012
Pour from a 12 oz bottle. SLightly hazy orange brew with nice off white head. Good head retention. Aroma is notable and not particularly good - some citrust hops and some odd odors reminiscent of farmhouse ales. Overall, an unpleasant impression. Taste is very much hops forward with a citrus / astringent profile starting at the begining of the sip, but the same farmhouse flavors emerg at the end of the swallow. Maybe this is infected with a wild yeast. Maybe it is spoiled but there is nothing lactic or vegetal, the carbonation seems normal, the palate is not all watery and no sediment - so it does not fit the spoiled beer profile. Just an off putting flavor, misplaced spiciness or untasty hops. Or maybe spoiled. I dunno - don’t like it and glad I only got two in the sampler pack.

Bottle. Amber color. Clear. Tan head that goes away. Great aroma. Has something in there not citrusy. Bitter but not heavy. Think the smell is some malt. Easy drinking. Can have multiples of these.

2 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 streve (14) - Maryland, USA - APR 27, 2012
Well, I’ve never tasted an IPA like this one. Unique yes, but not to my liking. The pour is a nice amber color with a thick white head and heavy lacing at first. The aroma is very odd, like vegetables or something with a little bit of floral. Taste is mild in terms of bitterness, kind of watery and nothing characteristic of a well balanced IPA. This one doesn’t agree with my palete.

On draught at Poppy’s Sports Bar & Grill New Orleans Riverwalk. Pours a deep clear copper color in a 32-ounce clear plastic cup. Tan foamy head and slight hoppy aroma. Medium body with full mouthfeel. Surprisingly malty, with mellow hop bitterness. OK.

12oz bottle. Eh, not crazy about this IPA. Smells like an IPA. Pours beautifully. Taste is just ok...not overwhelmingly hoppy, but too "grassy" for me. I can taste a little mellow sweetness towards the end of the profile, but it doesn’t blend well in my opinion. Not my favorite Abita. Try again.

Thanks gregwilsonstl. Tasted from 12 oz bottle into a nucleated pint glass. Very cool Mardi Gras graphics. It poued a beautiful, deep reddish-amber color with some chill haze and thick off-white foam, extremely long-lasting with tons of Belgian lace. Nice Williamette hops aroma: spicy and citrusy, not too grapefruity, great caramelized and roasty grain aromas underneath along with profoundly fruity ale yeast esters. Great caramelly malt sweetness balanced by strong Columbus bittering hops. It was a hoppy true-to-style IPA, but it offered so much more. The bready, fruity and caramelized brown sugar impressions reminded me of a freshly-baked apricot cobbler. Another unique and delicious brew from Abita, a highly underrated brewery in my opinion.

Poured a hazy reddish amber color. Very grassy/hoppy aroma with herbs and some vegetables. Kinda weird. Taste has some apricots and hops with more herbs and some medicine. A touch of cough drop with some grass. Overall the flavors are a little strange for me.

Had a couple of these from the can while on a fan boat hunting gators in new orleans. Exceeded expectations and had some decent hoppiness.
