shigadeyo (1399), Southwest Ohio Area, Ohio, USA Sep 11, 2007 9/09/2007: Abita Pecan Harvest Ale is golden brown in color, mostly transparent, and has a diminishing off-white to beige head. I don’t really detect any nuts or pecan in the aroma, only some caramel and roasted maltiness. The flavor is mildly sweet with the same lightly roasted caramel flavor and a somewhat dry, softly bitter, but slightly watery finish. There is also some honeycomb that surfaces in the aroma and flavor as this beer warms up. This beer has a medium-light body and is pretty smooth. Overall this is a decent amber ale, but as far as the pecans go, I don’t smell or taste any!
12 oz bottle from Tmoney99. Thanks Tom! Rating #15 for this beer...
DTM (399), Winters, California, USA Oct 11, 2008 Bottle from Hi-Time in SoCal. Poured and orange/copper color. The smell of pecan was overpowering. The taste of pecan was also overpowering. Pecans in beer = not a good idea. Didn’t even finish it all. maltdog (432), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Oct 10, 2008 Pours clear copper; a quarter inch of beige suds leave pretty lace rings. Smells ever-so-faintly of brown sugar, peanuts, and cheez wiz. The flavor… wait, I’m still trying to taste it… nope, not yet… okay, a glass of water with an unwrapped Snickers bar at the other end of the room. The light palate is actually kind of chewy, but has nearly zero carbonation. This is totally lame, not worth the ink to print the label. ericandersnavy (154), denton, Texas, USA Oct 8, 2008 bottle thanks to my girlfriend. she picked it up at world market in denton, tx.
poured a clear amber with an off white head. aroma of malt and and yes you guessed it pecan, was it due to the name? flavor of sweet malt and a woody flavor. a barley noticeable bitter. medium body with high carbonation. a crisp refreshing change. marksahara (79), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Oct 7, 2008 12 oz bottle all around ATL. Pours an amber-copper with a finger or less of frothy white crown that has minimal retention and spotty lacing. Aroma is full of sweet caramel malt and oily nuts. You can definitely pick out the pecan odour - it’s not like a pecan pie but more like you ground up a whole bunch of raw pecans in a mortar and pestle. Not wholly desirable but the nut flavour is prominent in the beer. It does not overpower the malt backbone in the beer, though you can also sense the mild hop bitterness in the middle of the palate during tasting due to the moderate carbonation. The finish is smooth and not very dry, and the mouthfeel is light-to-medium bodied with a little bit of oiliness to it. Some bottles I have tasted have a metallic taste, others don’t. Overall a decent beer but not something I would gravitate towards in the cooler. guzzler67 (1153), Hanover, Maryland, USA Oct 6, 2008 Dark amber appearance with a medium size tan head and good lacing. Long, deep sniffs finally pulled some nuttiness out of the aroma, but mostly it was caramel malts. Pecans were a little more evident in the taste. Some earthiness, still malt driven; hops were low keyed and non-descript. Medium bodied, moderately carbonated mouthfeel with a short lived finish. Nice flavor overall, just wished they were a little more generous with the pecans.
