12 oz. bottle. Okay. My brief sojourns through the south and southwest have shown me many pecan producers trying to use up excess production: BBQ smoking wood, mulch, etc. Now this. Well. Pours slightly darker than amber, and a little hazy. A little too much oil to sustain many bubbles. Smell malty, with a backing of light hardwood indeed. Taste does indeed have a little nuttiness. I keep trying not to bring up more “woody” descriptions, but they’re there nonetheless. An extra bit of spiciness and even nut butter. I am straining to quantify the description, but this an “odd ingredient” beer that makes good use of its oddity instead of going for shock value.

12oz bottle poured hazy amber with thin pff white head, dissipated quickly with little lacing. Nose is nutty malt and taste is similar. Mild carbonation with fizzy mouthfeel. Sweet finish.

Doesn’t really compare pecan beers like Lazy Magnolia’s, but this has a mild appeal as well. Light brownish colored, thin head, slightly sweet.

From a bottle poured into a pint glass. Aroma slightly nutty, most of the head vanished in a minute. Light caramel color with a slightly nutty, medium sweetness to the taste. The carbonation was a little fizzy. Overall it’s drinkable, solid but not spectacular.

A hazed reddish amber ale with a thick collapsing mocha head. In aroma, sweet nutty malt with grassy notes, faint cinnamon. In mouth, a sweet nutty malt with grassy hops, very restrained, OK.

Draft at Ninth Ward with Linh, Scarlett and Meg. Pours a clear amber brown body with thin white lacing. Aroma is light nut and caramel malt. Mouthfeel is light with medium carbonation and notes of sweet caramel malt, light grass and nut. Overall, very tame.

Gusher. Lovely reddish pour huge head. Aroma of wood, urea malt. Tastes similarly woody. Not really all that much pecan. Not oversweet, but sweet n sorta watery. A disappointment would not get again but ok.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Had on-tap for a $4.50 pint at Boat Works in St. Clair Shores, Michigan.
Appearance: Good looking beer. A deep brown (ahem, PECAN) colored brew with a nice little two finger, creamy head on top. I was basically expecting a glass of brown water, but this was a good looking pint. Lacing was patchy from top to bottom... not bad at all.
Smell: I can say, maybe embarrassingly so, that I don’t ever remember having pecans before in any form. Yes, that means no pecan pie, or anything of the sort. I have smelled pecans before though, and this beer does have that smell. A sweet pecan, caramel aroma. Not interesting, not awful, it’s alright.
Taste/feel: Quite a lot like the smell. I read some things about this beer before having it, and it’s what I expected almost exactly. The pecan and caramel is there from beginning to end, and that’s it. There’s no other dimension of flavor. There’s not much of a bitterness. It’s not bad by any means, but it’s very, VERY one-note. Carbonation is quite high, and the feel is pretty low. I don’t love it, but this is actually a very solid, sessionable brew. If you’re looking for something to send your taste buds on a ride, this may not be it, but it’s still a decent beer.

Aroma is of caramel. Color is amber and the flavor is of pecan. Kind of watery and lacking middle and finish. A common occurrence I’ve found with abita brews

Copper color, light-med body, light toasted malty flavor, slight pecan taste in finish, not overwelming, overall a nice fall beer if you’re looking for something other than a pumpkin or marzen.
