Feb 28, 2009 On tap at the Peekskill Brewery. Pours a hazy amber with a white head. Sweet raspberry aromas dominate the light hints of toated malt and wheat. Flavor is basically all raspberry, but watered down from the aromas from earlier. Finishes rather nondescriptly with some toasted cereal. Not my favorite, but at least it didn’t have the burnt nut aroma most of the rest of Abita’s lineup seems to have.

Feb 28, 2009 Pours with a hazy yellow body and a small white head. Nose of fake raspberry, wheat, hay and some blueberry syrup. Taste is wheat and a watery, weak, with a bit of raspberry jam. Slightly astringent wheat quality. Fizzy and dry mouthfeel.

Feb 27, 2009 Orangish brown glow, nice sized off white head. Smells of wheat. Decent lacing. Tastes like a loaf of bread that has been sitting next to raspberries in a cupboard.

Feb 17, 2009 Pours bright golden with a mostly receding off-white head. Aroma of raspberry and wheat. Taste is lightly sweet with notes of dull wheat flavor and raspberry extract. Mouthfeel is thin bodied with lively carbonation.

Feb 16, 2009 Abita Purple Haze is a cloudy golden ale with particles. The elastic white head has good retention and lacing. It has a very raspberry aroma with notes of lemony wheat and dough. It is light bodied; smooth and crisp, with a clean finish. The flavor isn’t dominated by raspberry like the aroma is. There isn’t really any bitterness to speak of. There are notes of lemon and dough to reflect the aroma. There’s is an appropriate amount of raspberry, but it seems a bit artificial. Drink this when it’s hot and humid.

Feb 13, 2009 12oz from Publix in Spring Hill, FL. It actually doesnt look bad...pours a cloudy honey color with a thin white head that diminishes to nothing. There is barely any aroma...a bit of yeast, maybe a touch of citrus, maybe a hint of raspberry. Flavor? What Flavor? This beer is virtually flavorless. Tastes like seltzer water. Easy to drink...but way too carbonated...This beer is awful. Not enough flavor to actually enjoy...and too carbonated to drink in bulk.
