Abita Purple Haze is a crisp, American style wheat beer with fresh raspberries added during secondary fermentation. Subtle coloration, fruity aroma and tartly sweet taste.

Very good mix of wheat and raspberries. Very light feel going down. Very refreshing everyday beer.

UPDATED: SEP 29, 2007 Re-taste. I was very high on acid my first rating... anyway... Try to find the berry in this beer. Itís the new "Whereís Waldo." Watery, little flavor, and disgusting. íNuff said.

(Bottle 35,5 cl) A raspberry-wheat beer from Louisiana! Oh yes, it had to come. Has the typical wheaty haze with some sediment. Orangey with a slight reddish tint and a good head. Quite dry and only a hint of sweetness from the fruit. Actualy quite refreshing.

Aroma is an uninviting combination of light hops and stale Veryfine. Pours a cloudy yellow with a quickly dissipating head. Flavor is boring to say the least - itís not particularly tart or fruity. I imagine if, in my younger (and albeit stupider) days, I mixed Snapple and any light domestic that it might have tasted much like this. Finishes bubbly at first, like a wine cooler, and then completely flat and watery at the end. Itís not awful, itís not great. Itís just mediocre. Would *not* buy again.

(12 oz bottle: Hi-Time Wine Cellars in Costa Mesa, CA) This raspberry beer is disappointing because the flavor tastes like a mediocre wheat beer with a bit of tart fruitiness, and the aroma smells like a stale frat room. The beer opens with moderate wheat maltiness, with the mild, lightly tart raspberry flavor contributing in a positive way toward the finish. Hardly any influence from hops, maybe just a bit in the finish. The nose, well okay, itís not as bad as a stale frat room, but thatís only because the berry aroma helps to divert oneís attention away from the poor aroma of the wheat base. Fairly thin body, especially when it finishes, and the carbonated palate has a pretty generic mouthfeel, not dry, not sweet, not coating, just "there". Pale golden in color and somewhat cloudy in appearance. Fairly small head after the pour recedes to a thin rim topping the edge of the beer. I expected mediocrity, and thatís what I got.

On tap. Cloudy honey color with maybe a little pink tinge. (Sort of a dark in here for an ideal rating.) Tiny fizz of white head. Aromas of sweet rasberry jam and yeast. Warm yeast flavors with a somewhat rasberry candy finish. That said, it a pretty decent for an easy-going fruity wheat beer. The yeast/wheat flavor is quite nice. It is not a remarkable beer, but it certainly is not as bad as itís average rating would indicate.

Pours a pale, sickly yellow-orange with a small head. Aroma is sour and metallic, flavor is much the same. Weak body, thin mouthfeel. Yuck.

Bottle. Poured cloudy amber with small rocky head. Aroma was wheat with sweet fruit tone and the flavor was much the same with sweet finish.

Poured a cloudy yellow with a smallish head. Aroma of raspberry. Flavor of raspberry and malt. Not bad for a every so often beer.

Looks like white grapejuice. No head. A Kind of musty smell and that is about it. I have a feeling it will taste a bit like flavored soda water. Tastes like crap. Not good at all. I have had raspberry beer that is good and this isnt one of them. Tastes like grass and weeds more than fruit. This should be a beer made at Kraftbrau. I cant even drink this thing. Oh well. Next....
